Sept 21st RNY diabetic [emoji382]

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Very excited like most of you all finally received my surgery date 09/21/2016 in San Antonio TX. I'm trying to detox before my prep-class and diet on 09/07/2016. The reason I am starting now is because I am insulin dependent. If anyone knows of a great cleanse please let me know. I am drinking tons of Water with some

Essential oils (slim and sassy) which work awesome. I literally feel my kidneys working!

I do have SOME permanent kidney damage from going into DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) yes I'm super young well 33 but my body shut down. Im going to get activated charcoal and looking for something for my lungs to avoid any pneumonia like symptoms. Diabetics can easily get lung infections. I'm basically looking for just in case scenarios. I'm a little nervous I have 3 small children and I just want to make sure I'm here for them. Any advice given will be so

Appreciated.❤️

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a potentially life-threatening complication in people with diabetes mellitus. It happens predominantly in those with type 1 diabetes. Do you have Type 1 diabetes?

I had Type 2 diabetes and the condition went into remission two days after surgery when I left the hospital. It ended that quick for me. I am 3 years post-op and the diabetes has been in remission ever since. I check my blood sugar levels periodically. I think I read somewhere that Type 1 diabetic patients do not see the same results as Type 2 with remission rates.

I believe they provide you with a spirometer after surgery to prevent pneumonia. Using your incentive spirometer after surgery will help you keep your lungs clear and will help keep your lungs active throughout the recovery process, as if you were performing your daily activities.

I am 33 and have been diabetic (type 2) for about 6 years. My doctor wouldn't even schedule me until my A1C was below a 7.0 Getting it from a ~9ish to there was a real challenge. I was on a fairly large amount of two types of insulin plus 2 doses of 1000mg Metformin. Before the surgery, the Metformin and active insulin were pulled. Now, 3 months out, I've gone from 35 2x a day of my Humalog to 15 2x a day and wake up with sugars in the 80-90s. In another week or so I will have to get it adjusted again. Hoping it gets completely pulled soon. I will say, it is much nicer taking two shots per day over five.

This is so great to hear. Congratulations to you on your new found health and not having to use so much insulin is a Godsend. I am super insulin resistant and am in 45 U novolog w each meal and 70 of the Novolin am and pm for the last four years and I gained 80 pounds on that insulin in four years. I don't even recognize myself in pictures. My face chased into this blur of just bloat. Some big girls are still very pretty w their normal size face, not me I became an apple shape(all belly) and my moon face. Omg. Well keep up the good work.

I am so definitely going to use that spirometer all day. Thanks so much for that advice.

Myself being a insulin dependant diabetic for 30 years now and also being an RN, I would not be doing these home remedies that you are talking about. You bariatric team will tell you what to do. You,very come this far, don't be messing up your body. The liquid diet before surgery makes lots of changes. I had RNY on 7/26/16. I had gallbladder removal on 9/1/16. I was in the hospital for 7 days with second surgery and NPO for 4.5 days and I was one sick gal. All of my labs were messed up. I even had to drink a phosphorus supplement.

@@kerber every body is different. I have always detoxed and my physician is very aware. Thank you for your feedback but as a nurse there not so much "home" remedies more like homeopathic out looks.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
