A beautiful day in Chicago

Recommended Posts

Our weather has been magnificent he last few days- sunny, breezy and without humidity. Decided to take a walk on our beautiful lake shore. I'm taking a break for a moment to grab some Water and marvel in the fact that I can now do this 13 mile walk - and back! Lol That will be 26 miles when I'm finished! Here are a few pics.post-284996-14730122443389_thumb.jpg

Getting a little closer. And a bit hazy

Finally- I looked down and realized that 5 months ago sitting like this would have had my upper thighs touching- who am I kidding? They would have been smashed together at this distance all cellulite and yuckiness!!!

Aren't those moments of realization of how far you've come and how well all the hard work is paying off, WONDERFUL!!?

Yes. Yes they are. 5 months ago it was too painful for me to walk across the street to speak to my neighbor. I do not exaggerate. Physically impossible. If my dog decided to chase a squirrel and left my cul de sac, I didn't run after him, I'd get into the car and drive after him.

Having the ability to get out in the fresh air, walk and run along the lakefront, people watch, smelling the grills from families out there cooking on a holiday weekend ( man!!! I could TASTE the grilled corn cobs running by!!) - incomparable.

I'm in Chicago as well. I can't wait to get to the point of being able to walk, or even jog, along the lakeshore! Thanks for the inspiration!

Yay! Another Chicagoan! You will get there! We are SO fortunate that we live in such a beautiful, vibrant city. I'm actually in the suburbs now, but grew up in Logan Square and then the Six Corners/ Old Irving Park area. Where, if I may ask, are you?

I grew up in the suburbs but moved out to Rogers Park for college. And I've stayed there ever since (almost 10 years now, but I'm thinking of moving closer downtown in the next year or two).

Yes, I love the city, especially the early fall non-humid weather! I'm hoping to be sleeved around early January/February, and I'm so excited! I used to run a lot as a teenager so I'm excited to get to a point where I could do that without grinding my knees to powder, haha.

I started my Run down by Loyola! Lol. The pics here were taken around Lawrence and then Montrose Harbor.

I'm in Niles now- exactly West of you on Oakton. If I can be of ANY help- please let me know!

Loyola's part of the lakefront is certainly beautiful too!

Thank you so much! I will definitely take you up your offer. I'm doing my best to be as educated about everything as I can beforehand. If you have any bariatric wisdom to offer though, I'll take it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
