Starting day 6 of my 2 week liquid diet. Not really hungry...just really emotional and weepy...I assume this is normal. Plus my head keeps playing games telling me you know you want a juicy cheeseburger or pizza one LAST time!! It's horrible!! Try to distract myself and I end up going to bed early and tell myself I will cheat tomorrow just to silence the thoughts in my head!! Mind games start in evening cuz i do fine during the day. It's crazy! 9 more days til surgery. ..I'm going to be a basket case!!

My surgery is scheduled for 09-21 and I am also on a liquid diet. I too am very emotional. In fact, it reminds me a lot of the emotional rollercoaster of pregnancy. I'm easily irritated and the tears are ready to fall at any given moment. Evening time seems to be the most difficult part of the day for me as well. I guess it's because I'm busy all day and don't have as much time to dwell on things. I've found that it helps to find something to keep me busy in the evening. Good luck on your journey. Sending well wishes your way.

Can you have broth and sugar free popsicles? Try having them in the evenings. Distract yourselves - take a bath, read, color, clean closets (get rid of big clothes you won't be wearing again, see what you have or need), paint your nails, go for a walk, etc. You both can do this! Remember the goal! Stay strong!

I had to change up what liquids I was having during my pre-op. Would have Water, some with crystal light, chicken broth, Jello, Popsicles, even crushed ice. Crushed ice was nice because it was something I could chew on. The first week of the diet I kept working. One night was particularly rough when everyone else ordered pizza. I just stayed in my office and kept my eye on the ball. I was open with everyone at work so they didn't think I was being a jerk by separating myself from their dining. They've been really supportive. The second week I went and saw a movie each day at the theater and did one project around the house. Went to bed early each night and stayed focused on the goal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
