Brenda Sherwood 64 Posted September 4, 2016 So, I'm in planning to get surgery with Dr Garcia in October. Havent paid deposit yet because Im still waiting for response to my final appeal with insurance here. I know Ive seen discussion here about skyping with Drs but can't remember if it was only preop or if its post op too. Is there any kind of support post op? Like monthly meetings or NUT advise, anything? The Dr I was supposed to use locally gas monthly support meetings but I doubt they will let me join if I end up in TJ Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App
James Marusek 5,244 Posted September 4, 2016 Generally the bariatric surgery support group meetings are free and open. Even if you did not have surgery under a particular doctor's or hospital's umbrella. So I would try and attend one locally. All they can do is say no. And I don't think that will happen. You should even be able to attend these monthly meetings pre-op.
MNewberg 0 Posted September 4, 2016 Brenda, I am having mine in a couple of weeks with Dr. Z. I phoned a physician around her in Washington DC who does the surgery and he said its fine to see him post op. My gastroenterologist and internist are all cool with this too. Plus I think Dr. Garcia probally has support.post op Maureen Newberg

jmarie67 45 Posted September 6, 2016 I'm having VSG on October 14th with Dr. Illan. I've only been communicating with Omar thus far. I'm also on the closed Facebook group. Do I need to have any contact preop with the Dr.? Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted September 6, 2016 It depends on the surgeon. I have had tons of follow-up with the team at OCC, but not every surgeon offers such extensive after-care. You should really discuss it with your coordinator and find out what post-op services are provided. OCC provided support for questions about nutrition, any medical concerns, issues with nausea, medications, etc. I saw my PCP here in the states for regular blood work post-op.
