At what point did you notice your weight loss slow down?

Recommended Posts

I am 4.5 out from surgery. Weight loss is so unpredictable. 3 lbs one week and 1 lb another week. Don't get me wrong. I'm thankful for every ounce that I loose. But wondering if/when the weight loss slowed down for you.

Three and a half years out. I stayed 140 for about a year. Then all the sudden I started losing again. I'm now at 121. I suppose I'm still on that journey. Though I have my calorie intake some. I think I'm thin enough for 5'6".

The more I move.......the more I lose.

Had some issues these past two months that I've killed my cardio.

Looking forward to resuming.

yes it does slow eventually...i had the dreaded week 3 stall and then lost nicely until about month 9. at that point i really started slipping with my exercise and eating. i managed to hold my weight loss steady until about 20 months out and then have slowly gained about 20 lbs in the past 4-5 months.

looking back though, it was ALL my choices that resulted in the gain. keep moving, keep focused on your eating and attend a support group for the long haul and you'll do great

At 6 months I am noticing atm that my last stall was 3 weeks long, and today I finally lost 1 Ib. Definitely not as much as I was losing in the past. However, this may change. Time will show ......

Might I ask how you "killed your cardio" and why that has impacted your loss?

At about 1 year I stopped losing but I lost 161 lbs and was 20lbs under my goal. I have maintained within 3 lbs for another year. I pray it continues well into the future.

It would seem that my posts are riddled with typos.

I intended for that to say, "Had some issues these past two months that have killed my cardio."

I've not done any formal cardio work and it shows. I know that the conventional wisdom is that exercise doesn't really factor into weight loss......but it does for me in many ways.

Things are improving and moving forward at the moment, though.

I'm 7.5 months out and less than 10lbs from goal. I was averaging 8-10lbs a month up to about the 6 month mark when it slowed down. I lost 5lbs since my 6 month checkup, but I was also increased to around 900-1000 calories and 60 carbs a day at that appointment. I'm hoping slowing down like this to goal will help me figure out maintenance.

Sounds like we had surgery within a week of each other--and I'm having the very same stalls and starts! I too have had the 3 pound weeks and 1pound weeks. I weigh every day and have a fancy Withings scale so I can go online and see a graph--it looks remarkably consistent like that. What can I say -- I'm a data nerd!

Seriously my appetite is up and I'm trying to go back to basics to see if things pick up a bit.

Dub,

Interesting to hear you say that cardio isn't supposed to affect weight loss. I have read/heard and experienced the same thing prior to wls. I've heard "Weight loss is 80-90% diet and 10-20% workout". This seemed to be at least partly true, b/c it didn't seem to matter how hard I worked out, none of the weight came off. But I think it does affect me now as well. Training for a 5K in January, so hopefully the training will help at least a little. There is such a fine line between working out and hurting yourself b/c our joints are not made to handle the extra weight. But we persevere and we will succeed!

Silverthreads,

Love that I'm not the only one who weights every day (and maybe night :-|). I also keep graphs and measurements. But I do it manually on a spreadsheet. May look into a fancy Withings scale. Thanks!

Hello all! New to the forum. Sleeved 4 weeks ago almost five! Have terrible trouble getting my fluids and Protein in. Seemed easier 3 weeks ago! Lol help... So frustrated!

Have started 2nd stage ... Ate puréed pinto Beans today and they just laid my stomach like a rock!! Yuck!

Have lost 30lbs since surgery! This happens when you can't eat or drink much. I feel soooo very full when I even drink Water.

Thanks for any help!

Kat

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
