Hystetectomy

Recommended Posts

Hello. I've been considering this wls for awhile but I'm just now super determined to do it. I just want to find out more info before I go through the application process.I keep reading about hormone levels. I have had a hysterectomy 4 years ago. I do not take any hormones because my levels are fine oddly. Does anyone know how this would affect wls?

I had a hysterectomy two years ago and had the surgery on June 15th this year. I've had my hormone levels checked through bloodwork and there are no abnormalities, however, prior to surgery I didn't have any hormonal issues either. I've been losing weight (not at the pace I expected), but my starting BMI was not that high. I've lost almost 40 pounds so far.

Of course speak with your doctor(s), but I think you should be fine. :)

I actually had to hold off my sleeve surgery for 5 extra months to have a hysterectomy instead (cancer). Once I recovered and they determined I needed no further treatment, they ok'd my sleeve. I haven't had any hormone issues that weren't expected (really just some hot flashes which are much easier to deal with without all the extra fat).

I'm sorry to hear that! But I'm so glad you do not need any more treatments! I have never even had a hot flash in 4 years and my last blood work showed that my hormones were great. The Drs can't explain it but that's ok lol. I'm really excited to take this step..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
