6 Months post op and Appetite is coming back !

No, no carbs except few non starchy veggies and little fruit, mainly 1/4 grated apple with my yoghurt, and bit of melons and berries on some evenings.

My diet is high Protein. I don't eat bread, rice or Pasta.

I eat yoghurt, Chobani (high protein), cream and cottage cheese, hard cheese at times, chicken, fish, veal.

Just noticing that my previous food aversion and little appetite has changed, and I know it is a further down post op process.

I am still losing weight, but not as much these days.

Yep, know the feeling of the appetite increasing. I'm in the process of discovering that the honeymoon period is well and truly over. I was ravenous yesterday but had walked 7 miles so wasn't surprised. I am really making sure that I get the Protein in, plus veg and some fruit but I am staying away from bread, potatoes, Pasta and rice. I do eat full fat dairy produce and make my own fruit yoghurts from lots of mixed berries, a squirt of honey and some lovely thick Greek yoghurt. Much more filling than the shop bought versions. What I have found is, that on s couple of occasions when I have thrown common sense to the wind and eaten too much, I have felt so physically sick and disgusting that I know that my sleeve is working.

I feel amazing having lost 67lbs (although the last 17 to get to goal are proving so much harder to shift) and my BMI is now normal at 24. I walk at least five miles every day and I am making sure that my average speed is increasing slowly so that I am not just dawdling along. I'm 60 on Friday and am off to do my first ballet class in 25 years. I used to be a dancer so reckon I should stick to what I know to strengthen my core. Also, I know the teacher and used to do his classes when I was professional. He only teaches old dears now sob thankfully so won't expect too much from me!

Yes, the honeymoon period is great while it lasts, and then poof, it is gone ......

Your diet is very similar to mine, and congratulations for losing 67 Ibs! Yiha!

I too don't drink alcohol, gave it all up 9 years ago. So, no empty calories for me.

I've lost 62.7 Ibs so far, and I am noticing that lately my weight-loss has been slowing down.

I have about 22-30 Ibs to lose, and I am learning to be patient.

Happy Birthday for Friday! May this be the best new decade for you!

And good on you for going back to dancing. It is so enjoyable, good exercise and good for the soul :)

In my slimmer days, I did Latin American dancing, and performed in many shows when I used to live in Sydney.

I absolutely loved it!

Say hello to UK for me. I miss my airline international travelling days ....

As other people have said, at 6 months you are fully healed you can eat more, and there is less chance of accidentally over eating and causing pain, so our aversion to food lessens. When I was 6 months it was like a switch flipped for me, and instead of feeling like a WLS patient I felt normal.

In this time between 6-12 months it is really important to learn that just because you CAN eat more at one sitting, doesn't mean you SHOULD. Weigh/measure your portions and stick to those, those portion amount will satisfy you. The goal is to be satisfied not full. When you hit the 12 month mark you will have even more capacity, so if it important to learn and practice discipline before it happens.

that was great advice. I wasn't aware that at 12month out we would have more capacity so it's best to go ahead and get a handle on portions and exercise now.

Yes, at 6 months the stomach is healed, and I am noticing the changes.

I am still measuring my 1/2 cup portion per meal, and eat the same healthy Snacks. I have increased my Water intake, as now I can guzzle it easily.

You are so right re sticking to portion sizes. Even though at times I feel I could eat more, I now wait half hour and notice that I am satisfied. Satisfied and not full, as you said.

Great, I needed to be reminded of this, thank you.

Then the next hurdle will come at 12 months, as you said.

So good habits and discipline are essential.

Congratulations on you awesome weight-loss! Fantastic!

Thank you for the great advice. This is why some people gain weight after the first year or two if they dont monitor their intake. Thanks for the guideline.
