charlie24 4 Posted September 2, 2016 Hi! So first off I'm about six week post op and just started having shoulder and back pain again, as well as some leg muscle pain. I've already talked to my surgeon who said it was totally normal. However, since I can't take ibuprofen anymore to alleviate and reduce inflammation, I was wondering what other people do now since they can't take the pain reducer and inflammation reducing drugs. 8 was always prescribed high doses of ibuprofen when I had any body pain and it always took care of it. I have been icing and using a heating pad as well as taking long hot showers as my PT instructed when I had a small tear in my back from yoga a few years ago. I know the pain can also be a result from gas, but I'm pretty sure since I've had pain from exercise and carrying a backpack weigh to heavy for me that it's more of an inflamed type of pain. Let me know what everyone has tried over time and what has been the most successful! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
madadams 130 Posted September 2, 2016 I've been allowed to take ibuprofen post op. My surgeon says it's fine as you have a normal stomach...just smaller. I have had no problems. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App
Dub 9,922 Posted September 2, 2016 Been taking Advil for a while now. Surgeon approved me to do so. It's one of the reasons I chose sleeve Vs bypass.
bellabeans 74 Posted September 2, 2016 I was sleeved 8/31, didn't really have any gas pain that everyone talks about . But 2 days post op I am home and starting to get a lot of pain on the left side of my neck and upper left ribs. Is this gas pain ?? And what do I do for it . ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted September 2, 2016 Surgery was 6/21 and I was cleared yesterday to take Celebrex and motrin as needed. In the meantime, you could try turmeric capsules for the inflammation.

Heating pad when you're sitting, lots and lots of walking, and pump your arms up and down, side to side, do gentle punching forward like you're a boxer, roll your neck around, and Tylenol. charlie24 4 Posted September 2, 2016 I'm not sure why they said absolutely no Advil ever again, but I never take Advil for pain only fever. They just said no ibuprofen for now, they may have had a reason but I forgot what it was. I'm just confused because all the gas pain was gone and it suddenly came back week 6 and I'm allergic to everything outside so I honesty can't walk outside. I have a treadmill but the gas is like near my chest left shoulder up to the top of the arm and it makes it hard to like even eat or drink now. I've had all the Med work done and all my incisions are healed and there isn't any problem like with a leak or those things, but since now I can't eat I'm all nauseous and the ice and Heat are doing nothing today. Sorry for the rant and random change of subjects
ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted September 2, 2016 @@charlie24 That wouldn't be surgical gas pain, and I'd be concerned about left chest pain radiating through the shoulder and down the arm...that's a cardiac sign that you need to get checked out. Soon.

Soon. Hi I got it checked out, they just said its super common and I'm able to go to a chiropractor now. all I'm trying to figure out are ways to allievate the pain while I wait for my Chiro appointment, the first available was Sunday at 1:30. cindyw41 761 Posted September 3, 2016 I was told no Ibuprofen because of the risk of Ulcers. I have been tempted to take it because of a phantom shoulder pain that I have. It has gotten better but i haven't been able to do much weight lifting because my range of motion is very limited. KristenLe 5,979 Posted September 3, 2016 @@charlie24 I wonder if it's low potassium or something like that. Try drinking something with electrolytes and have potassium rich foods. Be sure to stay hydrated too.
