What do you tell them?

Recommended Posts

I am very forth coming.I want to help end the stigma and help educate people. Some people will say we took the easy way out.I help educate them that this was not easy.

I'm the same way.

There’s nothing shameful about improving our health in a way that we and our doctors deem healthy.

I also don't want to mislead people about my weight loss methods.

If it wasn't for someone opening up to me about their surgery, I may have never decided to get it myself.

I tell everyone I had surgery and it was the best thing that has happened to me. I do so cause one I am a open book and two im from the Hood and if people see you losing weight to fast they'll think you on drugs. LOL

I'm an open book. When people ask I tell them. Lucky for me the reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Best decision I've ever made.

Tell them you are a meth head. LOL Just kidding. I don't care who knows that I had surgery, however when people say that I have lost a lot of weight I respond with a simple Thank you.

I'm a little over 2 months post op and someone noticed yesterday and said something. I was asked how and said I was doing the Keto diet (which I am...kinda). I don't eat carbs and the carbs I do get are from healthier foods. That satisfied their curiosity.

I haven't had the surgery yet but told my 3 brothers and sister about it and only 1 is supportive. 2 are trying to talk me out of it. I was dumb and actually posted it on Facebook. bad move getting criticism there too.

I had surgery October 3rd officially it went to fb today. Not by me, but a dear friend has decided to start the process and tagged me in the post. It wasn't a secret and I'm open when someone asks, so I guess I am ok with that. So what feels right for you. It's your choice and only yours, in the end you have to live in your choice they don't. My dear husband was against it we were dating at the time, married a couple weeks ago. He was worried about my health. I by far am not where I want to be yet 4lbs to onederland, but seeing his face when someone said your wife is smoking hot" was priceless. I giggle when I hear oh my goodness you're so skinny, because I don't see it and I'm not there yet. It was all worth it, not for the compliments but I no longer take meds of any kind. This disabled woman, determined to work after disability, no longer hurts all the time. I can work a 40 week in 3.5 days and still be fully involved in my church and spend time with my stepson doing anything he wants to do. Not trying to think of something less strenuous but fun. Good luck on your journey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
