I've told everyone who has asked and then some. I went completely public with my odyssey to lose weight.

I only told my wife. I told my employer that I need to have surgery for a cyst on my navel. Which I had 2 times already. I need fmla so I'll have to tell Human Resources. It's the right thing for me to do. But I don't want gossip or attention.

I'm trying to think if I should tell them I'm having a different type of surgery or if I should just be honest. I work with a really tight group of people that I've been with for over 5 years. Once I start losing weight, they WILL notice and they WILL ask. Some might be cool with it, others might not. They might be suspicious since they've seen me gain and lose some weight before (not to the extent WLS will), and complain about my "diet" foods, etc. so I don't know if honesty is the best policy.

People have preconceived notions about what WLS is and what it entails. It seems like everyone knows someone who had it and did poorly. But how do I explain that I'm having WLS because of X, Y, Z health problems I've otherwise kept quiet about? I work in the medical field, so everyone is already a health nut so it'd be easy for them to say "just try harder"

I told all the people closest to me so I would have the support I needed. I didn't want to tell everyone because I was worried about what they would say. ..and felt that I might agree with them to some extent.

The decision to have surgery, for me, meant that I was admitting that I was not strong enough to do it on my own.

Now that I am 7 weeks out and down from HW: 372 to CW: 318, I feel like shouting it from the rooftops that I had surgery and it took away all of the things that got in my way before. ..like the constant hunger and thoughts of eating. I feel free from food for the first time in my life!

I told my husband, my parents, my grown daughter and 1 friend who is considering the surgery. Nobody else knows and I like it that way.

I told anyone who would stand still long enough to listen. We are only as sick as the secrets we keep. Yes I used more discretion pre op but told my friends, family, my boss and a few very select co workers. Good luck to you all!

I've told everyone who has asked and then some. I went completely public with my odyssey to lose weight.

I did the same thing. I dont care who knows and I answer all the questions asked.

I also felt that I needed to tell those I'm with the most in case of an emergency. I need someone to be able to inform emts or doctors I had this done.

I have been asked if I would recommend this surgery to others and my answer is always NO I would not, this is a personal decision to make and I will not influence someone into something this important, but I would recommend a great surgeon if you are interested in it.

I am exactly the same! I have told everyone in my life (work, personal, and otherwise) and even others as it has come up in random ways since I began my journey almost six months ago. I'm expecting flowers in the hospital when I have my surgery on September 28! :-)

I went public to hopefully inspire others who may be putting off something in there life. One of the most humbling things I've experienced is people commenting and messaging me that I've inspired them.

I knew people would have questions, so I went public. I had already been public on my private FB page, and people were super supportive. I was asked by several people that they have family or friends who'd be interested in following, but I wasn't friends with them on FB, so some people asked if I would make a public page, and I did. Frankly, the best decision I've made. Also, I want to destroy the stigma that is out there with respect to weight loss surgery. Healthy is the goal, how you get there is irrelevant!!! Plus I've always been a relatively open book with my friends.

Stay the course!! We got this!!

Do NOT apologize for your feelings.

It is hard to believe that someone we trusted would shamelessly share our secrets with the world.

Hold your head high and never let the gossip group rent space in your head, they have so little in their lives to make them happy that they have to bury others in order to feel good about themselves.

Personally I say f#&$ em, let the talk and wisper. This is your life and something you did to improve your health and well being. NEVER let the shame you or make you feel like less of a person for what you have done. This is NOT high school and you don't have to take their shit.

Be Brave, Be Proud, Be Strong

You are not the town prostitute f&$king the town preacher. You have NOTHING to be ashamed of.

You will be in my heart and prayers that god will give you strength to over come this hurt.

I told my sisters, parents and my mother in law. To me, everyone else doesn't need to know my business. Don't need to hear everyone's negative or sarcastic comments.

I understand your reluctance to tell people. I did tell my boss who shared that both of his parents had it done . I told my close friends who I knew would be positive. Since my surgery on 8/23 , I have come across so many people who have had it or know someone who has had it. I have decided that if there is a negative nelly, I don't have to listen to them ! You know your reasons for doing this for yourself . Keep telling yourself that .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
