Post op Diet question

Recommended Posts

Would anyone Successful with their 1 week Post-op diet be willing to post what they are eating/drinking and around what time of day? My Dr prefers Clear Liquids for 1 full week. I don't really care for beef nor chicken broth. I'm forcing it in along with Jello (don't care for that either), so feel like I'm going to starve myself this week unintentionally! I'm also mainly grazing everything, not like meal/snack/meal/snack and so on. Anyone willing to share?

For clear Protein try ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates or Isopure.

Just keep sipping. Whether you really like it or not you have got to stay hydrated and get your Protein in.

This early out I wouldn't really worry about what is a meal or a snack. Just keep sipping.

I also drank Isopure Zero carb. Mainly you want to focus on hydration and whatever Protein you can get in. You won't hit your protein target for a while, just do your best and don't consume foods that are not a low calorie, low carb concentrated source of protein. There is only a small amount of space in your tiny tummy, everything that goes in must count towards your protein goal.

Since it's a liquid diet, I was told to have a meal every couple of hours. I begin when I first wake up with a half of a Protein shake. After a couple of hours, I will have some Miso Soup. I like the organic Red miso Soup from Amazon with a tablespoon of GENEPRO Protein powder. I like GENEPRO Protein Powder because it mixes in hot and cold easily. I'm not too concerned about salt since we are low carb during this time period and low carb diets require more sodium. I go back and forth between the soup and the Protein Shake, changing the type of soup if I get tired of Miso. For example, strained fat free cream Soups like Cream of chicken, mushroom...etc. Yesterday I had a little bit of stage 2 baby food (Beechnut: Just apples & kiwi), it was really good and went down smoothly. Oh, and watered down Cream of wheat is really good at this stage too. Hope this helps.

Best tasting "clear" I've found. Not as high in Protein as Isopure or powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, but I occasionally add a scoop of unflavored Unjury to it to boost the nutritional value.

You can also use it- or Isopure, to make Jello.

Until you are hitting your protein goal every day, it's best to stay away from foods that are not good sources of protein, such as fruit or cream of wheat. I had such a hard time reaching my protein goal, due to a lot of swelling, that it took me 18 months. My NUT is the one who advised against ANY non-protein foods. No veggies, salad, fruit (which I still limit due to high carbs) and of course the usual sugar, flour, Pasta, rice, potatoes and bread.< /p>

That first salad after 18 months was HEAVEN, lol!!

Yeah, I agree but I make my protein too easily :) but it's because my recovery has been much easier than most so point taken. I do put 30g of protein in everything, including my cream of wheat. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
