Disgusted by food

Recommended Posts

Yup. And not long enough ;)

It's a very common thing early out. At 2 years out, it still comes and goes with me. More come than go anymore, lol. It will pass.

I'm a few days out of surgery and everything makes me sick to my stomach to even think about eating. Sounds like it'll go away. I hope so. I am counting on this for Portion Control help more than help making good choices. Nausea all day long is not any fun.

I was never a picky eater before my sleeve.

Now....it's funny. There are foods that think would make me hurl if I had to eat them. Cottage cheese, for example. Absolutely disgusted by this. Irrational. Used to like it okay. Now.....hurl factor high.

Meatloaf.

Some Soups.

It's a weird list and I fear that it's still developing.

Well and fine, though.....as being disgusted by foods......and their misuse.....is a good thing, right ?

I still enjoy certain things....but I simply want my portion and then I'm done. It sorta hit me again the other day.....wife came into the den and saw I was having some leftovers for my lunch/dinner. She went into the kitchen and walked back into the den, "Why did you put everything up? What if you'd wanted more?". Silly question to ask me now. I get what I want and I'm done. Almost never finish any meal that is served to me by someone else.

Don't like feeling full, either. I freaking hope that never goes away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
