Medicinal bone broth

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried medicinal bone broth after surgery. This is the Bone Broth that is cooked for 24 hours dissolving the bones and veggies if included, straining and drinking. It is supposed to be very beneficial. Please let me know.

This is typically the only way we drink/use broth. My surgery is not until Oct and was just starting to get concerned that the fat content might cause a negative reaction. However, it seems it would be much more healing. I was thinking if I chilled and skimmed all the fat first it may be ok. But I will double check with my NUT too.

I made it, but never ended up using it and now have a gallon size freezer bag filled with bone broth ice cubes in my freezer that I will probably never use :-/

I used the NYTimes recipe- the ingredients cost $60 and by the time it was done I just didn't love the taste so much. And I didn't get sick of Protein shakes and Water while on full liquids so I didn't really need it. But it was a fun thing to do with my time while recuperating!

I have never seen bone broth with medicinal in front of it. I opened this thread expecting to read about the wonders of alcohol infused Bone Broth, only to learn we are just talking about normal bone broth :(

It should be "medicinal"

My understanding is that its considered medicinal due to the fact that the bones are cooked for a minimum of 24 hours and up to 72 hours so that the bones disintegrate reaping the benefits if all the collagen, amino acids, Protein, glycine, chondrotin.... I'm going to look more into it. I'll share what I find for anyone who is interested

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
