I was sleeved on 8-23 and I had the pains for about 5 days. I was walking .5 miles at a time and I felt like the more walking the better. Also my surgeon recommended a warm beverage in the morning and that seemed to get everything moving for me. Either broth or Skim milk was my choices

We all had those pains, and will be over soon.

hello all! I just got sleeved on 8.29 (yay!) and I've been struggling with gas pain. Does anybody have any tricks or tips to help alleviate that pain?

Walk, move around, raise your arms over your head, use a heating pad, time.

Walk, walk, walk. It helps to not only burp but to pass gas the other way, too.

Nothing worked for me. It just had to run its course. It'll get better in a day or two.

I didn't experience any gas pains during my sleeve surgery.....but did on two prior abdominal hernia repairs. One time was mild and passed after two walking sessions to the restroom. The other time was beyotch and took a couple days.

Fortunately the sleeve procedure is one that leaves us with the ability to move around and work the gas out.

I was sleeved on 8/30, and have found walking around, stretching, and wiggling often release what feels like golfballs in my chest, so I can burp them out. So far no gas down below - needing to keep moving, I guess.

Gastric Sleeve done 8-30 and feel like my esophagus is on fire. And though I know that it is supposed to be good eating habits I believe that of I hear the word sugar free again I may just go crazy. I tried chocolate sugar free puddin today and honestly it gave me a full feeling that stopped my gas pain. I have been trying just about every broth, Gelatin and popsicle there is and ot taste like I'm eating sugar and acid. We don't have any other flavors besides cherry, grape and orange...I decided to try straining a can of progresso light new england clam clowder and it went down slow and well. I can tolerate that more then the broth.. Never was a plain Soup fan even when I was sick with the flu...anyone with suggestions on how to avoid the bad habits...I feel tortured right about now????????????

Are you taking a PPI for stomach acid? It sounds like that may be the problem. What are you allowed on your plan? You are only a few days post-op so take it easy and concentrate on fluids and Protein.

My surgery was 8/29 too. I had gas pain for about 3 days. Moving around, walking and time is the only thing that really helps. Five days out and I feel pretty good!

No ppi, only gas-x. And I've been walking. Like most I have not had a Protein Shake dr. said nothing but Clear Liquids. Which is funny to me because that is all the i heard from my dieticians. Protein, protein protein. I do consume alot of Water and water based beverages like Vitamin water, propel, water with lemon. I am sure that the jug that I usually drink I'm no where near finishing even half of one of those because even with water it burns with or without the lemon. I have been feeling hungry since my surgery and lately the only thing that has made me fill full even a little is a Sugar Free Chocolate puddin. I can tolerate only a 1/4 of a cup. I tried progresso light new england clam chowder that I strained went down very easily and smoothly. I can admit that I am feeling a little better this morning, I didn't wake up because of gas pain. But I am feeling hungry....

I'm surprised you aren't allowed Protein shakes. I guess it depends on the Doctor. My doctor told me to make sure I get the Protein in with shakes. That's primarily what I am using as food the first week. I can have just about any juice and drink I want for Fluid, but they recommend mostly Water, and shakes and clear Protein drinks like Lift or Isopure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
