Don't use narcotic pain medicine unless absolutely necessary. I was up walking that night, felt great the next morning. walked all the way down to radiology to do my swallow study and was already able to pass gas and have bowel movements the next day. the narcotics don't help the colic pain anyhow. just breathing seemed to help mine. And you continue to get it every time you eat or drink follow your diet is close as possible. I don't really have any regrets but I do miss being able to drink regular beverages food isn't so bad because you can put one bite and you're not just to get the taste and get it over with. And no time at all you have an aversion to that food anyways it makes you sick

Wow. Totally disagree here. If you need the meds, use them! You may only need at night to sleep comfortably, or maybe mid day after you have been moving around a lot. The fact is, as long as you weren't an addict prior to surgery, pain meds are simply a tool to get you through the first leg of healing. And there are plenty of studies out there that show that when people are in pain, they won't progress in their healing process. Pain is a very real thing and though the effects on your body while in pain may be happening on a cellular level, the fact is it makes a difference with negative results.

And you can still get up and walk while you're taking them. Just don't drive or operate heavy machinery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
