Need advice... Surgery 9/19

Recommended Posts

I have struggled with weight fluctuations my entire life. Been "dieting" since I was 12. I had the band in 2011 and it did not work for me. I had issues and it was removed last year. I gave it a lot of thought and started the journey with the sleeve. Now surgery is scheduled 9/19.

I know this is an aid, not a solution. I know it's a lifestyle change not a diet. I've done all the required work twice now. Still I can't stop thinking of all the attempts through my life. All the self sabotages. Even with the band... I can't eat stuff it makes me sick... Well these cheese curls melt in my mouth and are tolerable so they are my new best friend.

How can I break the cycle? Are the doubts I feel in myself already a defeat!? I feel like maybe I shouldn't waste the time of a surgery cos I never stick to these changes. Am I not ready mentally??? When do I get ready????

Help.

I understand how you feel. I get my date on Tuesday. Losing weight is difficult no matter which road we choose. But you're a different person now with new lessons under your belt. Your body is about to be changed. A co-worker had an unsuccessful run with the band. Six months ago she had gastric sleeve and looks fabulous! You can do this!

You can do this. But you might need help. Perhaps talking with a therapist or psychiatrist. The program I'm in has one that's available. I not only met with her for a clearance, but I have a follow up scheduled about a month after my operation. Use these people to help you get to the bottom of it. Yes, the surgery is a tool. Diet and exercise are the keys along with behavior modifications. However, you don't have to do this alone. Get to the bottom of the issue. Best wishes @@Spectra13

I am almost 4 weeks post op and its hard to pass on the foods you love but I will say with this tool of WLS, I can't eat bad....it kills me....I feel like I'm going to die if I eat wrong! Which is good, the pleasure is NOT worth the pain!

I just started reading "The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients." You might like it also. I'm reading it in prep for my journey. I know the mental part of this will be hard for me also. I have a couple of other books on my list to read.

I can't tell you how many "Gonna start my new diet on Monday" weekends that I've had in my life.

There is no telling......happened all the freaking time.

I just wasn't truly ready.......until April 2nd, 2015. I screwed up my back picking up something with poor lifting technique and the pain that occurred over the months ahead was enough to scare me badly. I missed 6 consecutive weeks from work and I was scared....really scared. The knowledge that my back would heal if I got the unwanted weight off was drilled into my head by a spine surgeon I was consulting. I'd already been dealing with other specialists for a circulatory problem and was concerned that I was in bigtime health trouble. The two circulatory doctors both agreed that massive weight loss would allow my body to recover and heal itself.

This knowledge galvanized my belief that I could.....and would.....get the weight off and keep it off.

It's been a fairly linear process with a few setbacks here and there. The setbacks were opportunities to learn, though, and I'm grateful for them.

You scheduled this surgery for a reason. It's vitally important to keep your reasons for doing so in mind and let them guide you.

food is just another aspect of your life that you have to manage.

No different than how you budget your money or drive your car. You don't gamble thousands of dollars away on football games or drive your car like a race car driver do you ?

Of course not.

You simply have to find the keys to managing your decisions to eat poorly. They may be different for each of us....they may be similar. All I know is that Pain and Fear took root in me and got my damn attention.

I have the same history, including the band, which now has to be removed because of pain, so I'm getting a sleeve because I want that extra tool. But honestly, Overeaters Anonymous and getting a therapist who specializes in eating disorders has finally changed my thinking about food, which is half the battle.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
