Pressure To Return To Work

Recommended Posts

My work situation is giving me major anxiety. I know I will need a few weeks to recover. My plan is to use my last week of vacation time, plus one or two weeks on short term disability to keep some cash coming in. My job is physical in the sense that I am on my feet hustling on hot pavement outside from 6:30-4:30 each day. No breaks except for 30 min at 1pm. On a good day I am physically destroyed and mentally shattered. Am I crazy for doing this? How long before you went back to work? Anyone else out there with a non-desk job with advice??

I have a job where I'm on my feet hustling for 8 hours a day, but I'm indoors. Like you, I get a 30 minute lunch break. I have taken 4 weeks off and will be returning to work in 2 days. I can tell you there is no way I would have been able to return to work sooner. Due to the calorie deficit, I had very little energy and would not have lasted an 8 hour shift on my feet. I've had to take a 2-3 hour nap most days since my surgery. Your shifts are 2 hours longer than mine, and you're outdoors in the heat. I would think you'd need a minimum of 4 weeks off, if not more.

Dehydration will be a big issue for you. Can you do half days or something?

I'm a manufacturing supervisor.

I work 13+ hour shifts.

Typical day involves a great deal of walking as my department covers an area that's a few football fields in size.

I also had an umbilical hernia repaired at the time of my sleeve surgery. This was why I took 3 weeks off.

My first three days back on the job were only 8 hour days.....after that it has been full tilt boogie ever since.

Had I only had the sleeve done.....a week would have been all I'd have needed.

Going back to work was actually easier than my last days that I was there pre-op as my other body pains were reduced. It is a pleasant byproduct of losing weight. It's far easier now at ~11 months.

People make mountain out of a mole hill when they theorize ahead of time at how weak and feeble they think they will be.

Yes....we are eating at a very low calorie level. My finding with this is that if I cut out the carbs and stayed in ketosis....I'd not have problems. My body had....and still has.....enough fat stored that needs to be used as fuel. Flipping that switch and burning that fat gives me plenty energy when combined with quality Protein intake.

The only real complication I encountered was when my blood pressure went way low at 3 weeks post-op. Turns out that I was over medicating as I was still taking the normal doses of blood pressure meds yet I was down 55 lbs from pre-op and 20+ pounds post up at 3 weeks. Easily corrected by smaller dose. Now corrected by zero meds.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
