UTI - Postpone surgery?

Recommended Posts

So I have a UTI can my surgery be postponed for that? I did my preop testing today for surgery in two weeks. I go on the 7th to go over the results of my pee test and blood work.

We must be twins. I have a UTI as well and my pre op is also the 7th. So, I asked my team and spoke with the nurse and they said it's not a problem. Just get it treated and take your antibiotics and you should be okay. I also took the pyridium / AZO that is over the counter for pain and you should be okay. I also read that of you need it and still have a UTI day of surgery they can give you the antibiotics through the iv.

Hi !! Mine is on the 12th. We're so close. Oh Lord. Lol so I hope you feel better. I was a mess w that UTI but after I got the antibiotic and pain pills I was good. I'm still on them. It was rough but I'm way better and even been out and about w the hubby. How are you feeling. And did you get any antibiotics?

So, surgery will be postponed if you have a UTI. My nurse said that if you have any infection including a UTI you can become septic and have a lot of complications. So you better make sure you tell your team you have or had the UTI. It's dangerous if you don't. That's what I was told.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
