My weight day of surgery was anice outstanding 370 lbs. Surgery was 7/29/2016. I'm down 37lbs and weighing 333lbs which feels pretty good. I'm off of all my high blood pressure medication along with most of my diabetic medication. The only sucky part is wanting to eat more because what you're eating is delicious but not being able to because 3 or 4 bites gets you full..I say "sucky" because I'm still a fat boy at heart. I eat with my eyes and rememeber what it was like pre surgery. Eating till I had to walk with a lean while holding my belly so it doesn't move much lol. First two weeks were miserable and I was a grumpy, crabby, all around horrible person to be around because I just wanted to eat. I'm currently on week 5 and feeling better then I have in years! Why am I putting all this here? First off because I'm damned proud of how far I've come and looking forward to how far I will get. The picture is the last few days of walking for me. I used to be at the brinks of death after walking a mile, today a little under 4 miles and I felt great! Someone out there is going through it and I hope this helps you. Good luck to all of us on our new way of life!

Thank you so much...it's mind over matter for me...I so don't want to go for my daily walks but I know I have too and I feel so good afterward. This is slowly starting to be the best decision I've ever made...I say slowly because like I said, I'm still a fat boy at heart and can't partake in pizza Fridays. Lol ????

you won't participate in pizza friday's like you used to -

but a lot of people make pizza with a cauliflower crust, or have a thin crust, or just eat the toppings (that's what I do) and then it feels good to be a part of things again.

all in good time! it's worth all of this to feel healthy again.

Thanks for being honest about the sucky parts. My sleeve will be around the first of November and I'm so excited! Keep up the excellent work! I have YET to have anyone tell me they regretted the decision to get sleeved!

That is just awesome and I am proud of you! It takes a lot of courage to break compulsions. After awhile you may even find yourself looking forward to walks.

I went through about eight months of an Intensive Outpatient Program for eating disorders before beginning a bariatric surgery program. It really helped. It includes 12 hours per week of: dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), movement therapy, nutrition counseling, supported eating (to help you learn to recognize hunger cues), and individual and group therapy. It was REALLY useful. The DBT is especially helpful for learning ways to structure your life so you are less vulnerable to stress and less likely to engage in addictive behavior. If you have anything like that in your town, it might really help.

I have not been scheduled for WLS yet. I am almost through with all my requirements, but my surgeon up and left, and now I have to find a new one. When I do finally complete surgery and go back to a diet of solid foods, I intend to return to the IOP for a few months because I will experience hunger and food in a different way.

I also had to go through six weeks of Physical Therapy for a torn meniscus. The therapist decided to put me in a pool to walk and jog through Water with styrofoam "weights." I really enjoy splashing around because it doesn't hurt my knees and I don't get sweaty, but it is a great cardio workout. I'm joining the hospital pool so that I can go splash a few days a week. I rarely look forward to walking these days because it hurts but I love walking in the pool. (Obviously not in the deep end!)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
