How long is the port site tender after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded Aug 17/07 and my port site is still quite tender if I slightly press on it. I guess I'll just stop pressing on it for now! What I would like to know is if anyone recalls approximately how long their port site was tender/sore. I sure hope it's better before I get my first fill as I can't imagine right now I'd be too happy getting prodded and injected! Please let me know your experience. Thank you. :girl_hug:

Im 3 months out and somedays my port is tender, especially when I wake up in the morning if in my sleep I have been laying on it. It also gets tender some days when Im at work because for some reason I sit hunched over in my chair in front of the computer. It doesnt really bother me though and I just correct my posture and it gets better.

I don't think there is any one answer. When you hit your head on a cabinet, how long does it hurt for you? When you sprain your ankle, how long is it sore to you? Might be TOTALLY different for me.

I still feel tender twinges and I'm just over two months out. Nothing painful, but just slightly tender. I think it HURT for about three weeks. But the hurting feeling was dependent upon what I was doing at the time. Trying to get out of bed hurt more than walking around, and less than getting out of a chair.

Hope that helps, sorry it can't be anything concrete.

Thanks for your response and thanks to the others too. Hopefully, with time all of us never know the port is there (except maybe when we get filled)!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
