sey1008 43 Posted August 31, 2016 Hi all! I've scoured the boards but can't find an answer. How long did you need help with your kids after surgery? I'm a SAHM with a 17m toddler, and homeschooling an 8 yo. The older kiddo is a dream and a non-issue, and we can either break from school or he can do most of it independently. But this toddler.... she's a hot mess. She'd be an only child if she would have been first ????. She's also over 25 lbs, and I've read several places no lifting for 2-6 weeks. My surgeon says two weeks of help. I can easily plan to have some help in and out for a couple of weeks, but what I'm really talking about is major, full-time help. What's your experience? mistycal 81 Posted August 31, 2016 My kids are 9, 6, 5 and I watch my sisters kids also, which includes a 14 month old who is well over the 25 lbs!! I had my 9 yr old hand her to me when I needed her to be picked up, and he also would put her in the car seat and to and from the house. He was a huge help! And after 5 my bf would help out, I think it was about a month before I was told lifting 20-30 was ok... I think it helped her pick me up/hold me habit a lot!! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App My toddler is the same. A very hyper 2 year old who is into everything. She is 30 lbs and my MD told me I can lift her 7 days post op. For the first 7 days I made her lie down next to me for diaper changes and I asked her to come to me for snuggles. I did not have to pick her up. Her older sisters help picking her into the car seat. But you could also ask her to climb into the seat and you can buckle her up. You can serve her food on the side table instead of high chair. My daughter loved running to the table every couple of minutes for another bite. Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.
