First fill

Recommended Posts

4 weeks post-op and all liquid for those 4 weeks. Had my first fill yesterday of 1.5cc. I don't feel any restriction yet. Should I? Starting soft solids this week, I guess that will be the indicator.

If you don't, then, No, you shouldn't. Seriously. 1.5 is very little and, if your band was installed empty, I'd say your surgeon takes a more conservative approach than others. You'll continue going in for adjustments until you recognize that you're in a good place.

Until your band is adjusted to a saline level that works for you, it's up to you to eat properly to lose weight. When the band is at the right level for you, it's up to you to use it as a partner. No matter what, you've got some work that you're responsible for. There are no magic wands in Bandville. 'Tis pity.

Just so you know as you go along, each of us has an experience different from the others. If you and I have the same sized band, we may or may not also find that the same saline level works. This is an individual trip.

I believe that the band is about more than "restriction." It's about diminished appetite. When I'm mindful, I know I'm in good shape if, at a meal, I think I can eat another bite or two, but realize that I don't need them because I'm sated.

Have a great time as you go along.

I was in NJ yesterday and had fish for dinner.

Hi there,

my doctor did the same thing to me as well. When he put the band in me, back on October 2015, he just filled it with 1,00cc. I had to keep visiting him to his clinic till the 4th of February 2016, so I am in green zone now and lost 23kg in 8 months.

FYI I live in Greece and this is how the doctors act here.

I had a very strict doctor, and like yours, he put in a small amount in my band the first time. I had zero restriction. After a few fills, I was able to reach my green zone. Have patience.

No, you shouldn't really feel any different right away. For me it takes 3 weeks to know what type of effect the fill will give me. When I was first starting out, each fill meant giving up a food that I could eat just fine the month before. Please do follow the rules on the 48 hours on liquids, it does make a difference even if you can't tell.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
