Junk Food

I had my second fill about 3 weeks ago and so far have had great restriction.

Today at lunch I ordered some nachos (I know, I shouldn't be eating those anyway) and I was able to eat 1/2 of them.

A coworker said that eating junk food is easier to eat and most bandsters can usually eat more.. Does that seem true for a lot of you?

I know now to stay away from them. I will say though, I ate them 5 hours ago and I'm still not hungry - so that's a plus. But then again, since my second fill, I don't think I have been hungry. I eat becuase I know I need to.

It is much easier to eat junk food with the band, however it doesn't make it good for you. It is bad for us! You should get rid of it in the house and try to limit yourself when out. It is really hurting yourself when when you do it.

I do it sometimes and am very sorry for it later!

You Are Right About That. I Can Still Eat Lots Of Junk food. I Have Great Restriction On Protein And Veggies. But On Junk Food, Forget It. I Find I Still Want It And Can Eat Lots Of It.

Remember the band is the tool. In our minds we still want the junk but we need to focus on what our body is telling us. Are we really hungry? I am dealing with these very same issues and I know it isnt easy!

You are right, it's not easy... I've actually been really, really good on my food choices. I honestly don't know why today I had to have the junk. I think because I am leaving for a cruise this weekend and I'm thinking, it's vacation time (like I use to do at every vacation).

I've already made a list of promises that I have to keep for myself and eating junk is not one of them.... therefore, I'm thinking my mind was telling me - just this one time :girl_hug:

Now tonight for dinner I had cajun salmon - that was a great choice!

Yes indeed, this junk food thing can be quite a problem. Someone was saying on one of these posts to a doctor how it was an advantage of the band as opposed to bypass that there is no dumping syndrome. The doctor said the dumping syndrome is actually an important feature of bypass because it discourages sweet eating. He said some bandsters don't loss well because they can't give up sweets.

I agree, dumping sounds like a good reinforcer.

And I do find junk food never feels restricted. I could probably eat a whole cake and never feel 'stuffed' lol.

I just try not to be in those positions. Only junk food I keep in my house is 100 calorie packs, so it's portioned for me already.

At my family's Sunday cookouts, they always have Desserts, chips, etc. I pick the better things.. the shrimp, and bring my own salad.. but if I decide to snack on chips, or have a small piece of a pie.. It never feels like my stomach is filling up, like when I'm eating my good foods (shrimp, salad, etc.) So I can definitely see how someone who gets the band and doesn't want to make the right choices could not get very far. If I kept it in the house, I'm sure I would be eating a lot of junk food and not losing a pound!!

Dumping is a one way bypass patients stay sort iof honest for a while. but then lots of them grow out of that dumping problem. How many bypass patients do you know that 4 or 5 years out are as thin as they were 1-2 years out? I know of NONE. EVERY one of them has gained back a good chunk of their weight. Now it is true that they are still smaller than they were in the first place, but if that's the case, I would much rather lose slower with the band (and not everyone does) than have my intestines cut and rerouted for the same amount of weight loss.

a confession: Sadly I eat more Oreos now than I ever did. I don't think I had an Oreo cookie in a couple years, now I CRAVE them. ARRRGGGHH!

This is exactly the post I was looking for! I am almost 11 weeks out and have done really well so far. But lately I have discovered that eating junk food is so much easier than eating healthy food! I'm glad to know that it isn't just me. I will just have to keep all the junk out of reach! Keep up the good work everyone and thanks for the support!

To some degree its true for me.

I dont find a lot of junk food easy - pizza, fish and chips, McDonalds, I never ever eat or want those anymore.

But Cookies, lollie, chocolate...oh yes, definitely. In times of stress, I revert to bad habits, eating too much of these foods and skipping meals entirely. I did it yesterday. Had a huge assignment to present at uni and another one to finish today. I ate nothing of any bulk, substance or nutritional value yesterday but fuelled myself by a huge sugar rush.

It no longer affects my weight becuase its a much rarer occurrence and only happens under extreme stress, not day to day for every little thing. But I really am trying not to do it at ALL.

Nachos I'd have no problem with. But I really do manage to keep away from that type of food most of the time. Its just the sugary stuff that I struggle with.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
