So my journey started about a year ago Aug. 2015 I started seeing a professional dietition and started adipex. My starting weight was 252 lbs i felt terrible had a hard time breathing especially with mild exercise. I was not modivated it took all my energy to play with my daughter. I tried everything to loose weight but lets face it i always felt hungery and even with diet and exercise my weight loss would yo-yo never loose more than 10 lbs then the following week i would gain double. So with diet changes, meds for appetite suppressant and exercise My results were a weight loss of about 15 lbs after several months then i started slowly gaining back:( i felt so frustrated so when my primary doctor suggested having the gastric sleeve i dove into research and set up a consult orientation with Dr. Sarantos who was amazing i went to the orientation and decided that the gastric sleeve was the option for me. Afterwards i had lots of tests done to determine if i qualify. Months passed by i met all qualifications and was told i would be called with my surgery date. In the mean time my husband and myself both were in a freak accident and both suffered broke legs. So my surgery was postponed..... I had to be able to walk before i could have the surgery. Few weeks about 8 lol passed by and i felt that i was finally able to schedule my surgery. So surgery was scheduled for april 28th 2016. The kicker i had to start my pre op liver shrinking diet that day. I was still walking with crutches at this point and had to negotiate with my ortho md for a walking boot bc he wanted me in a cast for 3 more weeks well i got my way and i had 2 weeks to start walking again. Pre op took all day lots of tests done. Night before surgery im nervous but excited!!! Had to be at nfrmc by 6 am so left my moms house around 4:30 am arrived receieved my iv and off to dream land i went. See story cont..

Part 2 so when i awoke i was very nauseated ???? i vomited several times it was awful i ripped open my incisions the next 2 days were the worst of my life i will leave out the details. ???? however on day 3 i started feeling better ???? for the first week Clear liquids some nausea and soreness week 2 progressed to full liquids felt good a little weak but thats to be expected. I had a hard time drinking more than 30 ml = 1 small med cup. Week 3-4 HUNGERY LOL i started soft pureed foods like fish i ate alot of fish and some grits, mashed potatoes, ice cream. I will admit i did add in a few cheats ???? but im only human and mind you its been a month snice ive had any real food. During my 2 week before until my 4th week post there was so many birthday party, anniversary and other celebrations that i missed because i could not eat:( part 3 to come on a positive note no more heart burn thanks to hernia repair that was done as well during my surgery...

So you and I have the same starting weight. My surgery was 5/16/16, so I'm a little less than a month behind you. I also had a hernia repair. Thankfully I didn't have the problems you did. Mine has been really easy....no nausea no issues with food and great weight loss. Good luck to you!

Thanks i wish i would have found this support group in the beginning. Do you drink (sip) when you eat? I might take a small sip but im afraid of stretching my stomach back out. Hows your weightloss going week to week?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
