Get someone else - relative, friend, neighbor, kid 18+, anyone. The hospital doesn't want you exiting unescorted, which is a matter of their liability insurance. More important, you don't know how you'll feel.

No comment on the rest of it.

A lot of hospitals won't let you leave in a cab. I like the idea of a neighbor or friend coming to pick you up. The hospital will like it too. The hospital will probably not like you leaving in an Uber -- they may not permit it -- but frankly they will likely never know if you don't tell them that's an Uber driver you paged and not the neighbor.

My hospital NYC was more than happy to let me go home by myself. They even offered to help call a cab. I took an Uber for the 10 minute ride home and even treated myself to the SUV and felt extra fancy.

Hospital may need to give someone instructions for your care.

It'll need to be an adult, I would think. Someone that will be there with you that first 24 hours.

You will still be coming out from under sedation. You DON'T need to be in a car with someone you don't know!!! I'm really sad your husband can't be there for you.

Woah! Outpatient?! Damn they kept ME three days after a c-section!

I strongly suggest you talk to dear hubby and make arrangements for someone you BOTH TRUST to bring you home. Doesn't matter how near or far your hospital is. The world is full of opportunistic scum waiting for a half sedated female. Sorry if my opinion scares you. But it's the truth

My surgeon also is scheduling my surgery on an outpatient basis.

I'm doing it at a hospital but I don't have anyone. Somehow I think I will be okay, though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
