Recommended Posts

Going for my sleeve surgery next week in Colombia, any advice for the post op? I'm afraid of vomiting and gas pains, any suggestions to prevent or deal with that?

I hope if you ask you will be given anti sickness medication I was and it works.

I also took in some mints and sucked those it really helped.

Get out of bed and walk as soon as you are able and ask the physio to show you exercises that help shift wind.

I'm 5 weeks out, its been an up and down journey, as it is for most folks. No regrets!

My weight loss including pre op diet is now 3 stone I'm not house bound and and can walk pain free again . Best wishes xox

I had alot of gas pains (mostly back discomfort) but move move move....it gets rid of it...I had no vomiting but remember to take it slow don't try to do anything too fast especially trying to drink Water just take small steps and small bites of everything for quite some time trying to overdo it causes lots of discomfort. I am 4 months post-op and down sixty seven pounds best decision I ever made in my life

Good Luck! The pain was tolerable compared to the nausea/vomiting. They gave me Benadryl, Zofran, and an anti nausea patch in the hospital because the nausea and vomiting was brutal. It barely touched it! I'm 5 weeks post-op and still vomit at least twice a week, but I do not regret my decision for a second. Vomiting IS normal. I'm 41 pounds down already!! The gas pain (for me) was helped with just walking. I still have some issues with Constipation, but I take a stool softener if it's been a few days. Prayers for a smooth surgery, and recovery. See you on the loser's bench!????

Good advice. The anti nausea meds work great. Don't hesitate to ask for them.

I needed a prescription for nausea for a couple of months, and it was a great help. Got it filled the day I asked for it. I put Benefiber in my Water for Constipation, which helps a lot. I like to use a variety of flavor enhancers in my Water. I keep a sports bottle of water chilling in the fridge while I'm sipping on another one. Then I always have a cold one ready to go.

Listen to your body. It is going through a lot of changes. You will be a new you. Take the time your body needs along the way, don't rush things. I only had vomiting when I tried to rush things. Slow and easy does it. Follow your plan, it is based on a lot of study. Your dietician can be your best help. Best of luck-you will be so happy!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
