I'm six weeks out today, been back at work for four weeks. I get in all my Protein and fluids and about 500 calories a day, give or take.

The last two or three weeks I feel like I have never been so tired in my life. I get home from work, eat and go to sleep. I nap on the weekends and have no energy to do anything.

I will bring it up at my next dr appt on 9/13 but when did you start to get some energy? I'm more lazy now than I was before the surgery.

It sounds to me like you need more calories. 500 calories seems really low, especially if you are active.

That said, you just had major surgery. Napping, sleeping, and resting are perfectly normal.

I'm at 7 weeks out and no exhaustion issues. My only thought is I eat closer to 800 calories a day (sometimes as many as 1000.) So maybe @@Inner Surfer Girl is on to something?

I concur with @@Inner Surfer Girl.

I suffered from extreme tiredness, too, when I returned to work, but I was also recovering from some complications that came after my surgery. My physical therapist at the time recommended returning to work for 1/2 days for the first few days and see how it went before working a full 8 hour day. It was a great suggestion!!! At least that way I knew what it was going to feel like. Fortunately I had a great boss back then who checked on me regularly and told me to leave early if I needed to once I did start working full days.

You are still healing and your body is still adjusting to your caloric and nutritional changes; it will need time. Hang in there! Be kind to your body and your mind. :D

How are your Vitamin levels? I was low on B12 and Calcium. supplements helped me a lot when dealing with fatigue.

It's normal, everyone I've spoke to days this has happened to them . Eventually over time you will feel betta. I'm five/ six weeks out and exhausted. I still can't consume much. So the energy in is not enough to balance the energy out. I've just made an improvement to my energy levels and to how I feel generally by taking soluble B12 and also a liquid Multivitamin and mineral. Make sure you drink as much as you can too I've also been told dehydration causes fatigue. Best wishes xox

At three weeks I found out I was having low blood pressure. My meds were adjusted and I was feeling much better in a few days.

The real energy boost came for me around week 8. That's when it seems that my body simply "woke up" and everything sorta fell into place.

I was feeling this way at four weeks out and it just didn't feel normal. The surgeon said "everyone heals differently" and just pretty much dismissed me. However I went to my family doctor and she ran blood test and found out I was extremely low in potassium and Vitamin D, which was why I was so tired. I would go to your doctor and ask for blood work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
