rusticlemon 9 Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) I'm 5 months post op. I've bought chewable Vitamins from 3 different companies and can't stand them. I've done Tespo liquid vitamins and I really really don't like the smell. That is my problem mainly is smell. I can stand these however at $80 a month and 3 times a day.. I would like something better. I just got the Bariatric Advantage Capsules (pills), and WOW.. the smell.. makes me GAG to take them. and then the smell seems to come up from my stomach and I feel like I'm going to puke up to 5 mins after taking them.. The smell gets me. I've done the Patches however they don't actually provide enough Vitamins Is there anything else out there??? Thanks, Wendy PS I do really LOVE the Calcium liquid shooter from journey. Though extremely thick I have no issues with this. Djmohr 6,965 Posted August 29, 2016 As soon as I was 8 weeks post op I was told I could move to regular generic Vitamin plus D3. They are small easy to swallow, generic and inexpensive at Walgreens. I buy one get one for free. My surgeon recommended them. Now Calcium citrate on the other hand I am very picky about. I buy the Bariatric Advantage chews. The strawberry and orange are the best in my opinion. They are certainly more expensive but given RNYer really malabsorb Calcium they are really worth it. You can get them here or on Amazon.< /p>
Tjwalk 9 Posted August 31, 2016 Just curious, why do you not think Patches provide enough Vitamins? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
Qwalla 132 Posted August 31, 2016 My nut. Recommended Vitamin stick packs. They are flavored powder you mix with 8 oz. Water in the am and again in the evening. She said it is a good way to get your Vitamins and liquid in. Haven't ordered them yet. Trying to find someone who has tried them. Dont like chewable bariatric vitamins..ordered the patch but broke out in a horrible rash so we will see. Very frustrating!!! StefanieSparklePants 95 Posted September 1, 2016 Not sure which Bariatric Advantage Vitamin you got, but I use the Bariatric Advantage chewable Innovation. It's newer than their previous chewable. It's got an improved taste and Iron and Calcium together. I really like it. It's like a fruit punch. They're expensive, but Im willing to pay for a vitamin i enjoy taking. bellalulu 87 Posted September 19, 2016 I've switched to all gummies. My surgeon said it was ok. My life is so much better now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I thought gummies were a No and they do not provide the Vitamins we need in our pouch. That's what our center kept saying. I wish I could take gummies. But be careful Witt the lack of total Vitamins that goes undigested. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
StefanieSparklePants 95 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) We dont absorb Vitamins in our pouches. We absorb vitamins in our intestines. Usually, gummies have a higher sugar content and usually dont have the right amount of vitamins levels for bariatrics. I use Fiberchoice Fiber gummies as a fiber only supplement. And let me tell you, I definitely absorb the fiber into my system. [emoji57] so, I don't think it's that we cant absorb them, because obviously, I see the benefits from taking a fiber Gummy, so SOMETHING must be absorbing correctly, it's just they are often sugary, can trigger candy cravings and dont always have the best Vitamin profile. My surgeon didn't recommend gummy vitamins, but didnt condemn them either. Edited September 19, 2016 by StefanieSparklePants
02CDMB 37 Posted September 19, 2016 I will be doing blood work this week so I will let you know how that goes. My surgeons bariateic nurse said to use the gummies though.
StefanieSparklePants 95 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) Yep, everyone is different. Though, I would say that the idea that we dont absorb gummy vitamins is a bit misleading. Because I absorb my fiber gummies. I would never take a Gummy Vitamin as my sole Multi-Vitamin, but I dont think all gummies are terrible. I always question my bariatric team, because they told me I wasn't anemic when I was- they didn't do all the tests. MsSara 2 Posted October 23, 2016 I found that the chewables and the gummies both tasted bad and didn't have enough nutrients. Try Isotonix. powder that you mix with Water that tastes good and is really superior in nutrition. I take on an empty stomach and wait 15 minutes for full absorption. I noticed a positive change as soon as I started to take Isotonix.
