Traveling with Supplements & Protein Powder

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone!

I am a little over two weeks post-op and am very lucky to be feeling really good! I will be taking a four-day trip for work next week and will have to bring supplements and some Protein powders with me.

I would like to pack everything in a carry-on, but am not sure if I will have problems going through security. Ideally, I'd like to bring my pill case, which has all my Vitamins and supplements in it, and individual sealed Protein packets.

Has anyone flown with all of this stuff? Any advice or "best practices"?

Thanks, in advance, for your feedback!

I fly often & never check a bag. I've had no issues bringing a baggies full of assorted Vitamins. No prob with either small packets of Protein Powder nor a small tupperware container of Protein powder. I fly mostly out of EWR & CHS.

They usually want you to put that stuff in the clear zip-lock so that they can see it as you go through security. I have traveled with gel Protein supplements before, and lots of pill supplements in mini-snack bags, and that was fine. I did create a printed list of all the supplement types I was carrying with me.

Thank you so much, ladies! It is good to know you have not run into an issue before.

It's a good idea to print out a list of supplements.

Thanks again!

I have flown a few times since surgery with the Quest single serve Protein powders. Love them - so easy to manage.

If you have a carry on bag I would find it easier to carry a six pack carton of Protein Shakes, or 2 six packs. It is much easier, since I cannot for the life of me unclump Protein powders in three years without a blender.

Make sure to walk while on the plane. You want to keep the blood flowing to prohibit blood clots.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
