It's Official, I'm A Bandster Now

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know I sailed through the surgery just fine, no tummy gas, but the left shoulder gas was a biggie! While the doctors were in there, they found a hadal hernia, fixed that and did a liver biopsy for my pcp. Most of you probably remember me telling you, I am the first adj bander in my area, and the first for my doctor. Dr. Allen from Ky was the assisting proctor.

I met two other people that had it done after me, of course I had to introduce her to this site, I'm sure she will be joining soon.

So, now it's just me, my band and all of you wonderful supporters. I had my dh stop by Dunkin Donuts had a cup of coffee with splenda, ummmmm. Went right down, slow, tiny sips. and it's still down an hour later. I'm so swollen with fluids, I feel like the Michellin man.

Thanks for all the prayers and thinking about me.

Welcome to bandland Pat! :banana I am glad the surgery went well for you! Remember to do some walking, that will help you heal faster. The good old heating pad is good for the shoulder. I also had to have my hiatal hernia fixed. Don't be surprised if you get a bill for that, I had my surger done in Oct. and yesterday I got a $4300.00 bill for the hernia! Needless to say I wasn't too happy!

Sip lots of Water, I also liked drinking the Propel tropical citrus, I felt like I was having something special. Get some rest and visit with us when you feel up to it.

Congratulations! What a trooper you are! Surgery just a day ago and already posting! :D Way to go.

And three cheers for Splenda too. The news says there's a shortage, so I bought a huge box of 700 packets at Sam's club. Should last at least a week.

Congratulations, Pat! Please give yourself ample time to rest, drink lots of Water, and walk around as much as you comfortably can. All of those will help you recoup. So glad it's behind you!

I met HarleyNana in the hospital as I was banded right after her, so we have officially been banded for a day and a half! She told me about this site and I am anxious to check it all out and get all of the information that I can. Thanks in advance to all of your input, it always helps to know what to look for and how others have conquered what we are about to tread on.

Debbie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
