Protein powder taste?

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble getting all the required Protein in, so want to add unflavored Isopure powder to some regular foods. The guy at GNC said the powder mixed with just Water tastes icky, but that it's okay if mixed with something.

I want to add the powder to sf pudding, Soup, and smoothies, but I don't want to have to throw food away if the Protein Powder ruins the taste. Can anyone tell me what your experience has been?

Thanks in advance!

That's the problem, unflavored doesn't mean it's tasteless.

I haven't tried anything but unjury and it doesn't taste bad. They have a sample pack you can order before buying the big container.

Can you tell me what kinds of foods you've mixed it in? Do you not notice the taste of the powder because it's masked by the food? Or can you taste it a bit, but not mind the taste?

(My stomach has been finicky, so I'm nervous.)

pudding & oatmeal mostly. I didn't notice the taste as much as the texture. Something with more liquid probably wouldn't be so bad.

+1 for GENEPRO

We just started carrying GenePro in the BariatricPal Store. It's the 2nd generation version which is supposedly more efficient than the first.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I'll try a little of the Isopure powder I have (a small bag) and see how it goes. At least now I know I won't be ruining a whole cup of yogurt or pudding.

I used Isopure for a very short time, then I just couldn't stand it in anything. I switched to GENEPRO and am very happy with it. I can't smell or taste it at all.

I'm only 5 days out, but I bought the nectar grab and go packets. Lemonade has been my favorite so far. It takes me almost all day to drink it, but if you have a cup like a yeti or similar to, it stays cold all day. I just can't go back to the chocolate yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
