facebro29 272 Posted August 27, 2016 Hi guys. I know you have to eat slowly after having the gastric sleeve but when you are 2-5yrs out do you still have to eat really slowly? Just a question I have. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Pescador 1,374 Posted August 27, 2016 You don't "have" to but I can assure you if you eat really fast you will not feel very good in the chest area. The main thing is to continue to eat slowly, chew extremely well, put the fork down, and enjoy your food. My husband does this without thinking, but I have to keep reminding myself. I honestly feel it will help you in your lifelong journey to keep the weight off. We are 3 years post sleeve.
facebro29 272 Posted August 27, 2016 Thank you for your response. My husband and best friend when I eat with them they inhale their food so I've adopted that habit. I know after the sleeve I won't be able to eat as fast which I'm OK with. Maybe I can teach them to slow down as well. Pescador 1,374 Posted August 27, 2016 My husband tells our daughter not to inhale her food. She eats faster than anyone we know. I also think we need to teach them lol!
Candygyrl 637 Posted August 27, 2016 My son is an inhaler. I've taught him to eat slower since my surgery. He's 15 abd a very fit athlete but he has to slow it waaaaay down. For me it took some getting used to and a little frustration but after you're uncomfortable once or twice you learn quickly.
kelliev2015 136 Posted August 27, 2016 I was wondering the same thing. I'm only 3 weeks post op but have found it very hard to eat slow. I think the main reason is because I haven't felt any discomfort when eating so it's hard to remember to do so. I'm certainly not struggling to slow down because I'm hungry - mostly just impatient. Pescador 1,374 Posted August 27, 2016 Kellie it might help to put your fork down between bites. I also need to do this.
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted August 27, 2016 I'm three years out and I have to eat slowly or I risk getting overly full too quickly. When that happens, it all comes back up.
