Weight gain before surgery

Recommended Posts

I have a question. I feel like since I will be having this surgery I am eating more. Ugh I ate so much today I got sick to my stomach can't figure this out. I need to get control. Has this happened to any of you?

Oh yes! This has certainly happened to me. From the day I paid my surgery deposit 3 weeks ago, until today, which is day one of my preop diet, I ate everything in sight. Gained 8 pounds during that 3 week period. I am so disgusted with myself that I'm almost relieved to be on this strict diet prep phase. I'm concerned that I won't be able to controll my food addictions after surgery.

You are so not alone in this! I never even believed that I had a problem with food until this week. I literally sat in my car for an hour after work deciding if I should go through a drive thru or make a sensible meal. It's not easy, but just remember you are worth it and you can do this if you set your mind to it.

I've only gained 4 so far but I'm doing the same thing. I feel like I'll never get the chance to eat again so I have to take advantage of my stomach while I still have it. Almost like I'm on death row and it's my last meals (I'm dramatic)

This surgery will not curb your emotional eating habits, please seek help before you continue on with the surgery, I needed too. Emotional eating will set u back. I did therapy for over two years to help with emotional eating, I finally have it under control. Best of luck on your journey!

I am in the same boat I anow its not right but I keep thinking about one thing or another that I want to have before I can't eat any more. I had a friend call them food funerals I keep picturing head stones with my favorite foods on them. But then I look at zoolily and other cute clothes

I've thought more about the food funerals. Every time I think of adding another food to my grave yard I am going to think of something I will gain by losing weight such as being able to run. and play with my kids or going swimming or wearing what I want so I will use it as a trigger for something to look forward to instead of a reason to eat! We are strong we can do this! No more food funerals for me

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
