Got my date and time...but

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally have everything scheduled. I have to be at the hospital at 11:20 on 8/29, surgery is at 1:20. I'm super excited and super nervous. I've done well on the preop diet so far but could anyone give me some suggestions about food for the liquid and puréed stage? I'm going to shop some tomorrow and just a need some ideas. :)

check out eggface's blog - I got most of my ideas from her. She has a ton of recipes on there (for all stages):

For the liquid stage I relied on Water, sugar free Jello and broth. For puree I used organic baby food and blended oatmeal with a little milk. Because I was feeding a very small stomach, I didn't need to purchase much. Good luck on your surgery and your recovery. Having the bypass has been an very good experience for me.

Thank you!! I'll be sure to stock up on Jello. I have tons of broth and the oatmeal sounds so good. I can't wait until regular foods again lol. I'd do just about anything for a piece of baked chicken.

Congratulations!

Clear liquids - Homemade chicken broth, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, crystal light, Water. They also had me mix 1/2 apple juice with 1/2 Water for that first week.

Full liquids - all of the above, creamed strained Soups, Protein shakes, Greek yogurt, cream of wheat made very thin

pureed - I had a tough time with this stage. I could not tolerate and still cannot eggs, I had a hard time with pureed chicken and turkey and I am alergic to legumes/beans. So I lived on cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and all of the stuff from above. I also had very soft cooked veggies like carrots that I would mash up with a fork. I was also allowed sweet potato and had it once.

Wow, hopefully at some point, you can tolerate some of that again. Thank you for all of the advice :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
