I have been on my 10 day liquid diet now with no complaints. I'm almost to the end. I am having one small issue though, bad leg cramps. I'm certainly getting enough fluids. I'm more regular to the bathroom then Old Faithful Is to the sky. There is literally no color to my urine at this point. Any ideas what I could do to relieve these leg cramps?

You know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway: Call your bariatric team, Friend. :)

They will know exactly what you can do about leg cramps.

Hurt like hell, don't they? :( Sorry for your pain.

There can be several reasons:

dehydration

low sodium

low potassium

low magnesium

over exertion

blah, blah, blah

To ease them? (after you've called your team, of course) ;)

Hot bath

light message

stretching exercising

"relaxing" that individual muscle---not an easy thing to do. This practice is taught in child birthing classes----any experience????

I know how badly leg cramps hurt. Please, take care of yourself. Yourself is the only "yourself" that you have. :)

Please, post and let us know how you make out. Nosey? yep. Care? sure do!

Powerade zero or G2 will help with electrolytes and in turn cramps if that's what is causing them

I like the ideas here! Perhaps i'll pick up some Gatorade tomorrow. I figured that it is a little late to contact my surgeon now considering that I fly on Sunday and offer my organs for harvest in Mexico on Monday.

Make sure it's G2 if you're going with Gatorade. It's the low sugar version

Not too late, you silly man! Call tomorrow morning.

If for no other reason than to make flying more comfortable.

Legs cramping while strapped into an airplane seat will NOT be pleasant.

Yes mom, I will call. I should have mentioned that I only get these cramps around 4am until I wake up.

Thanks for the heads up on the G2, I was aware but someone else who sees this might not be.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
