Urgent Question: Did You Vomit Blood Day-1 Post Op?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has a RNY yesterday, today she vomits blood every time she tries to drink any fluids. The Drs. assistant says its okay. But I do not think it is.

Has any of you encountered this?

It wouldn't be okay if it was me! Is she still in the hospital?

I actually think I did - once. The day of or the day after surgery. I told my surgeon (and the nurse). They didn't seem too worried about it, but I would tell them for sure just in case. If there's a potential problem, they need to know about it.

I never vomited blood. I knew someone who coughed up a lot of blood. I rushed the person to the emergency ward only to be told it was not a problem. In this case the person had a nose bleed. It was night and in a horizontal position the blood started to collect in their lungs and they coughed up a lot. It seemed pretty scary at the time.

Sometimes during an operation, they insert a tube down your throat. This might make the area raw and might tend to bleed.

I vomited blood right after surgery it was from the tube they put down my throat. I remember telling the nurse in a panic and they were said it was totally normal. Didn't happen again. I would trust the Drs and nurses at the hospital she should just continue letting them know each time it happens and watch for clumps of blood.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
