Underbelly Roll/Flap

I didn't get an underbelly flap, also known as "the mother's apron", until I reached 180 pounds. I think if I were taller, I could have avoided it until 200 pounds. But, I have a small frame, so being fat came before 200 pounds. I have not had kids, I'm just very overweight.

My question is, at what weight were you when you your belly flap went away? If you have saggy skin, at what weight did it become just skin?

Also, before I had this surgery, I never smelled yeasty underneath my belly. Now that I'm 23 pounds less, I have this yeasty smell every single day, plus, it's sweatier than normal. Could it be because I've great changed my diet? I shower every day, and I clean that area VERY thoroughly. I am going to see if baby powder helps. And yes, I will use the kind without talc, lol.

It's called a pannus, and mine never went away, just turned into sagging skin. The only way I'll get rid of it is with surgery.

If you have insurance, you may be able to get them to cover removing the skin in that area when you get to goal by seeing a doctor and having them document the yeast issue and any rashes it may cause.

I would not use baby powder there, as that can cause problems. there are some anti-fungal powders that may be used at times, but what has always helped me is to use coconut oil as a skin barrier after shower/bath. it will keep that smell and associated problems at bay.

I am around 190 - and my belly is not just skin yet. but it is a whole lot smaller than it used to be! like about 1/3 of what it was.

If you have insurance, you may be able to get them to cover removing the skin in that area when you get to goal by seeing a doctor and having them document the yeast issue and any rashes it may cause.

I hope that, since I'm only 25, I can avoid the plastic surgery. I'm almost certain mine won't sag enough to be covered by insurance, if it does sag. My belly is big, but it doesn't go below my groin area. I've been told I look more pregnant than fat, lol. x_x Thanks for the reply!

Oh, ok! I will not use baby powder. I'll try the coconut oil. Oh, I hope I can get mine down to 1/3 of what it is! It's the heaviest part of my body. I always joke and say that I look like Humpty Dumpty because my arms and legs are not fat, but my belly is massive for my small figure. It's so ridiculous, that it's funny. :rolleyes: Though, I do get asked if I'm pregnant quite often. From the back, I look like I weigh 170. But then when I turn around, I look well over 200. I don't even have a big butt. I can still wear a size Medium to Large panties, but my shirts are XL to 2X. Sometimes I feel like my body is upside down, lol! >_<

How log did it take you to get to 190?

highest weight was 267 - at surgery I was 238. I am six months out and right around 190. which is slow compared to others, but I have had some unique stresses in my life this summer (both of which are not things that are going to go away, or resolve) and quite frankly I am not in a hurry. I know it's going down. I know it will continue to go down in these first 18-24 months, I know I am making good habits and so I am fine with my weight loss process. my personal goal is 160 or less - normal BMI would be 129 - we'll see where it all settles in the end. anywhere between 125 and 160 I will be happy with.

I know it will continue to go down in these first 18-24 months, I know I am making good habits and so I am fine with my weight loss process. my personal goal is 160 or less - normal BMI would be 129 - we'll see where it all settles in the end. anywhere between 125 and 160 I will be happy with.

I had my VSG the same month as you did, mine is coming off slowly as well. Like you, I am in no hurry. My goal is between 150-160 at the one year mark. I know we can do it!

My NUT wants me at 150, but to me, that is still too big because I'm supposed to be small. At my size, even 130 is overweight.

except I lost most of it in 3 months, had a 2 month stall and have just started loosing again. :D but yes, I am pleased as punch with my results. and YES. it is much easier to be patient from this side of 200.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
