Mexico...here I come!!!!! (I think!!)

Recommended Posts

After an emotionally exhausting week due to battling my insurance company (they won), and being absolutely certain there was no way I would qualify for financing, I just got approval from CaptialOne Healthcare Financing, and now I am just giddy!!! A bit scared too though! Even though I have read so many positive things on this forum about being banded in Mexico, I'm still a little nervous. I'm working on getting all my documentation, etc together and I am planning to go to Dr Rumbault in Monterrey. I'll be going alone, not because I dont want my family to know about it, I just don't want them to know until after it's done because I don't want anyone trying to talk me out of it. Its not the surgery part I'm scared about though, it's the Mexico part, although i'm really not sure why. I guess I just need some reassurance that I'll be well taken care of.

My thanks to everyone who has said such positive things about Mexico, Dr Rumbault, and their banding experience in general...I wouldn't have made this decision without all your input!!!

I went to Dr. Zapata in Monterrey and had a great time with no problems. I also went alone. Look at it as an adventure. Best of luck. Donna

Hey, I went to Tijuana..............Now that was scary. Don't worry, my fears were a waste of time. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I went to Mexico, T.J. My doc and his staff was more professional then any doc I have ever had here in the states. They took really good care of me, I was allergic to the anesthesia did not know this at the time so when I came out of it I was so sick, they would not let me go until I was done being sick. There was a bit of a language barrier with the nurses but they took good care of me. I would do it again.

Mexico was great! Very professional doctors and staff, the nurses are great and my doctor Gonzalez and his colleagues make you feel like family. Dr. Gonzalez has an impressive track record as well. Read a little here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f11/anyone-heard-dr-francisco-gonzalez-tj-38041/ reasonable price too. I am very happy with my choice and my results have been excellent. Their aftercare is awesome, they call you every week for the first four weeks and every month thereafter. I was lucky to find them!

Hello Joyce, I am going to Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado he charges a little more that the Dr's in Mexico. He comes very highly recommended and charges $9950 for everything with 3 months follow up care.. His staff are great people to talk to and are very helpful with any questions... Dr K is a sweetheart and explains everything about the lap band and surgery... I just wanted to mention Dr K to you as an option to explore on your lap band journey...

There is a link to Dr K's web site at the bottom of my signature, if you are interested.... Good Luck..

I am also planning on going to Dr Rumbault in Mexico. I am planning on going the begining of November or whenever I get my passport! I have done A LOT of researcch and talked to A LOT of people that have gone there! All I can tell you is that he is one of the best. I found out he helped invent the inamed lap band. I also know that it is important to find out where you can get fillis because sometimes doctors won't do it if they know you got it done in Mexico! When are you planning on going? and where are you from? My mom is coming with me! I am so excited!! Hope tp hear from you soon!

Hi I was banded by Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey, Mexico on 8/24/07. I went by myself and also drove myself to the airport. I am back safe and sound and all is going well - it can be done! and you can do it as well!

Dr. Otriz's driver is on his way to my house (San Diego) right now to take me to TJ. I am scared to death but will let you know how it went.... that is if I don't decide to run and hide from the driver!

Well I've been narrowing down my choices, and at this point I think it will probably come down to who gives me the best price between Ortiz, Gonzales and Rumbaut. I have heard such wonderful things about all of them, that aside from flipping a coin I can't think of any better way to choose which one.

For those of you who are already banded, thanks for the support! you will be seeing me here often, and for those that are about to be banded...good luck, I'll be joining you shortly!!

Dr Valenzuela from Dr Gonzales office called me this afternoon (he was awesome by the way!!!), and said I don't need a passport to travel to Tijuana. Can anyone confirm this? Several other places I've researched have mentioned needing a passport.

Thanks!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
