Has anyone had a hysterectomy prior to the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I had an open hysterectomy about 6 months before the sleeve.

the sleeve is easy compared to that. recovery much shorter. hardest part is the important liquid diet afterwards. it's a toss up which surgery is my favorite though, as both were life changing in good ways.

I agree the hysterectomy was life changing!! I know the 1st month is expected to be challenging with the sleeve. I'm ready!! Thanks for you input that really helps.

I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago.....it was the easiest surgery I had ever had! I was approved for 6 weeks of paid medical leave but only felt like I needed about a week....after that first week I didn't feel like anything had been done to me...of course I was still healing on the inside so I took the 6 weeks...

The sleeve, I expected to be very similar and it was.....if I had to compare the two I'd save the sleeve was a little more uncomfortable....neither were bad from a pain standpoint.....With the hysterectomy there was nothing for me to "get used to" afterwards....With the sleeve I had to learn how to eat. After my sleeve surgery I was back working one week later. I never used any of the pain medication once I was home from the hospital.

Just be aware that everyone's experience is different. Just go into yours with a positive attitude. The first week was the only uncomfortable time for me. After that it was all smooth sailing! Good luck!!!

I had a lapascopic hysterectomy in 2001 and just got approved today for surgery, waiting on surgery date. I hope the sleeve is as easy as my hysterectomy was. I rebounded quickly and easily. Very little pain and no complications. Actually, my breast reduction in 2007 was more difficult than the hysterectomy. I wish you the best on your journey.

Congratulations on your approval. I'm hoping so too. I work from home and have a desk job I plan on returning back to work Thursday after surgery keeping my fingers crossed we'll see.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
