Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery

Recommended Posts

To add to the amazing advice everyone else has given, it was suggested to me (this applies to long term weight loss goals anyway) to view your calorie intake a week at a time. This way if you mess up today and need an extra Protein Shake or extra piece of chicken to curb your hunger then you can just off set it by cutting a tiny bit on another day

Like all big changes we make in our life it can get really overwhelming.

Drink lots of Water, lots of Protein and fresh veggies, track your calories and take it one day at a time, that's all anyone can expect of you :99_muscle:

I started my diet plan after my construction on 3/7/18
I have lost 50lbs and exercise by swimming laps 2 hours a day 5 - 6 days a week. I don’t miss much of it, at times I crave carbs but I have lean healthy Protein in its place.
1200 calories a day =
6. 200 calorie meals a day.
Lean protein then veggies and fruit 1 time a day if I want it.
I am glad I have changed 7 months early so my transition will hopefully be easier than some that wait until just before surgery.

My doctor expects me to lose 30 pounds in 3 months. I'm 5'2 and was 331 pounds. They have us work with dieticians who set up food plans. So I have a goal of 1500 calories a day, high-protein, veggies and some fruit. They okay a few carbs, but I have really cut those out since those are a big no-no anyway.

Just went in for my one month dietician check-in and had lost 20 pounds! So it can be done. I just keep reminding myself that we will have to eat better after surgery, so what is the point in fussing now?

Hi! I am the same weight as you except I am 5'3"! I am also getting surgery in December. My doctor just told me I should be losing 15-20 pounds before we meet again in October So I have been in the same boat as you. I am going to download Myfitnesspal and use it- some tricks I have been doing is eating Protein first, so I start filling up on that, drinking a lot of Water, having fruits and yogurt nearby for a snack, and just being conscious of how often/the portion that I eat. Lots of luck to you! I am here if you want to chat!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
