PNWSleever,

Thank you for the updates, I check my email every day to see if you have told me something new. I am glad that we can see nutritionists as much as we need to. I feel that will be a valuable resource to help us build and maintain the right diets, which will help us to keep the weight off. I am excited I go for my initial consult tomorrow at 3:30pm EST.

PNWSleever,

I am in disbelief. I arrived 30 minutes early for my appt at 3:30. There was laughing from the time I arrived until I left. I was checked in, (I think I had too much done paperwork etc....) and eventually after 4pm I was called back by a person who looked at me in my opinion as if she did not want to help me. She gave me a dry hello, I actually saw her roll her eyes. She took me to a consultation room and then she told me to leave my things there and that she needed to weigh me and take my blood pressure. They ask patients to take off their shoes and socks to be weighed. I did and was weighed and then my BP was taken it was high. She asked me to go back to the consultation room and wait. She eventually came in to tell me "The nurse practitioner is not going to see you today." just like that, I asked why, she said because your blood pressure is high. I said I did not understand isn't that one of the things bariatric surgery is supposed to cure? I advised her that I understood what she was saying to me, I just wanted to know why I would not be seen because of high blood pressure. She went and took a few minutes and came back to say that "we do not deal with patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure." That I must go back to my PCP for my BP to be brought under control and that I could be refunded todays visit or leave the money for the next time I could be scheduled for a consultation. Once I was leaving the receptionist the nicest person I interacted with already knew to give me a refund I was not asked if I wanted to leave the money in place, instead I was given a refund. I got my refund and left. Honestly I feel that I was not wanted there as a patient and my BP was the excuse used to not give me a consultation. I left feeling disappointed and like I had wasted my time. I called the other doctor who was my first choice but could never get an answer at his practice for quite awhile this was before I ended up at the bariatric office I went to today. Today I got an answer at the bariatric doctor who was my first choice. I have an appointment on Monday at 11:30 am I am glad, truth is once I arrived I felt no so comfortable but was going to deal with it. I am prayerful I will have a better experience Monday and actually am able to get the ball rolling on Monday.

Collette I am so sorry you had to go through that! There is no way I would ever want to work with an office that was so unprofessional and unkind. Everything happens for a reason and I'm sure you will have a much better experience with your first choice Dr. You deserve to be treated like a person not a number! Good luck on Monday!

PNWSleever,

I went to my appointment with my first choice doctor this morning. The reception and treatment I received was great. I was able to meet with the surgeon who was also great. I received my clearance needed (subtracted) from what I turned in this morning, she too said that there were few requirements for BCBSIL. I asked her how long did it take for approval, she advised that it was taking awhile because the paperwork in confusion between Teamcare and BCBSIL. Teamcare just started covering the surgery this year in January. I advised the now there is no confusion because BCBSIL is aware that they approve the bariatric surgeries, I found this out calling Teamcare who told me to call BCBSIL for information on the surgery. The only other thing they asked me to do was the psych evaluation. I have my psych evaluation tomorrow at 12n. I was told my paperwork would be ready in 2-3 days.

I was approved by BCBSIL. Found out today, thank goodness. I completed my pre-op appointment today and am on the schedule for gastric bypass on this Wednesday at 12:30 afternoon. Went out and bought sugar free popsicles, wylers sugar free singles, Apple juice, white grape juice, sugar free Jello and chicken broth. Tomorrow is the clear liquid diet, so I will have those items and I have to do a bowel prep. Not looking forward to the bowel prep...... Glad things are moving on.

Appointment with Dr. Macik on October 4th, submission to insurance 10/10/16, BCBSIL/Teamcare approval 10/24/16, surgery 10/26/16. I thank God for his blessings.

Congratulations, glad to hear from you again, glad you are approved. I think the approval was last Friday. I called today and was told that I was approved. So glad. I have surgery on Wednesday I am doing GB because I have GERD, HBP, sleep Apnea, and borderline glucose levels, GB cures most people of all these problems. 60% for vanity, 40% about getting rid of all the co-morbidities I have. Do you have your surgery date yet?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
