Any husband/wife bandsters out there?

Recommended Posts

Ji,

My husband and I were banded exactly one month apart. We each needed that time to take care of each other. Even thought there is no real pain ( at least for us)...it was nice having someone to fluff your pillows.

I went first. All I can say is I'm glad we BOTH decided to get this done.

We thougfht about it for months!

Good Luck to you!

My husband and I were originally suppose to be banded a month apart. We have 4 young kids, so I felt one of us had to be back to normal at least. Well, the doctor went out of town and pushed my husbands surgery back two weeks. He got banded last Wednesday and I'm going in on Oct. 4th. I don't know how this is going to work since they say "no lifting more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks". I guess that 20 pound 9 month old will just have to lay there. Just kidding! The doctor says it's ok to pick up the baby. For some reason his weight doesn't count I guess. My husbands already picked him up several times and I'm kinda worried this could end up hurting him in the long run.

However, I think it's good to go in as close as possible to each other. I know him doing the liquid diet while I still eat whatever has been hard. It's good to do it together.

Hi, both me and my husband are banded, too. We were exactly one month apart. I was banded on Feb 19 and he was banded on Mar 19. He has lost 87 pounds now and I've lost 56. It was absolutely the best decision we ever made. I do think it was good we had some time separating our surgeries because we could take care of each other. Good luck! Our daughter is about to get banded soon, too. So, this is turning into quite a family thing!

You will do just fine. We did it one week apart and things have gone well for us. The wife goes in 4 weeks for a check up and then the 1st fill. I am going to try and get it so that we both are filled on the same day. The wife is able to drive and lift, she just needs to watch what she does. He said the same would be for me. Funny thing witht he interns they said I could drive starting on Sat. but felt I should what for his word. Plus I had another surgery on Friday that sidline for a few days also. Glad to see that everybody is doing well so far. I think that this will be a great thread to keep going for couples.

Hello!

My dh was banded on April 3, 2007 and I was banded July 10th of 2007...Together we have lost about 135lbs... If you have little ones, I would suggest to wait at least a month...

Best of luck and have fun!

How is everyone doing that was banded a couple of years ago. Also do we have any new members that are couples as well. The wife and I are both doing fine. The weight loss for the wife has been slower but she is doing well. Iam been holding at 175 for a while and not having to use the cpap at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
