According to my surgeon, it depends on your weight. You take your current weight and multiply by .3. So a 300 pound person (300 x .3) would have a Protein goal of 90 grams of Protein.< /p>

After that, I've heard different theories. Some say that your protein goal should stay about 90 grams. Some say that it can be reduced as you lose weight applying the weight x .3 rule. Some say that 65 grams of protein is the absolute minimum for women. And my trainer says that you need more protein if you are doing a lot of resistance work and trying to increase muscle mass.

And then there is the question of when you eat protein. My surgeon said, "People who do the best with this surgery have a Protein shake every morning for the rest of their lives and have some protein with every meal." My trainer says you should have 8-30 grams of protein after a workout designed to build muscle.

Hope that helps. I heard different things from different people, so it might be good to check in with your nutritionist.

5 weeks out, how many grams of Protein am I supposed to be getting?

How many grams of Protein did your NUT or surgeon recommend? The amount shouldn't change at 5 weeks, it should just be easier to reach that goal?

My surgeon's goal for me is 100 grams. His guidelines are 80 grams for women who start with a BMI under 40 (maybe 50, I don't remember), and 100 grams for everyone else.

To be honest, I can't remember. Mine went so extremely fast, I paid out of pocket. So I went to see him and literally 2 1/2 weeks later, I was having my surgery. So things kinda went really fast for me. Right now I'm getting approximate 60 grams a day. I see him a week from this Thursday and I'll make sure to find out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
