I was banded by Dr Yau last June 15th. I'm now 40llbs down and feeling great. My husband was soooooo against the op. I took him into meet and talk with Dr Yau and he changed his mind. He is a young mid 30's forward thinking guy, seems totally dedicated his job. The only thing I found a bit odd was you go in have the op come home and recover and get booked in to see Nancy the fill nurse, who is a totally sweetie. But you never get booked into see Dr Yau again. I'm sure you could see him if you wanted but I just presumed I'd have a follow up with him. From what I read on this forum people pay hundreds of dollars for fills and after care at TLBC it's all included. I know I can phone up and go down tomorrow if I needed anything and I'd be see no questions asked. Hope this helps if you need any other Q's answering no problem

Similar to jetlagjane, there has been no mention of ever seeing Dr. Yau post op (I'm about 2 weeks banded). Like Jane, I imagine if I wanted to see him or had a band-related medical concern I probably could but it doesn't appear to be the routine. I've read a number of posts on this site that indicate other people have regular post op appointments scheduled with their surgeon to check to see how their incisions are healing etc. as opposed to an on-request basis. I'm Ok with what TLBC appears to do post operatively (as so far I don't think I have any post operative issues) , but it does seem quite different from other places. Pre operatively the only time I ever saw Dr Yau was for about 5 minutes moments before my surgery (asked if I had any questions, made a few remarks about the band, asked me to sign the release). Initial consult was done by a non-medical person and any other 'medical discussion' prior to the surgery was by phone with a 'nurse manager'. Blood tests, chest Xray, and ECG were the only tests required and no requirement for my family doctor to sign anything (which I also see posts on this site that indicate it seems to be required for some other clinics-I don't know whether that is for some insurance coverage reason or not-of course there was no insurance coverage in my case). I did ask once whether Dr. Yau would want to see me pre-operatively and was told, not unless I wanted to see him. I have to admit I was surprised by that but I really didn't have any other frame of reference at the time to know whether it was unusual in the industry (hadn't found this site yet!). There are nutitional seminars one can attend pre and post operatively that explain the various diets and I found the one I attended to be informative. The nutritionist is very helpful and friendly. I haven't gone for my first fill yet, so cannot comment on that process yet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
