So I have been really trying hard to do low carb to get these 15 pounds off, so insurance will pay for my surgery.

I don't have a scale but went to my mom's to weigh myself and the scale says the same weight as I was before I started the low carb diet.

My clothes feel loser, I feel better and my mom says I look a lot more alert. I have been eating, chicken breast, cheese, premier Protein shakes, stir fry with cauliflower rice. I don't get it. I am able to move a lot better too. Just don't understand why the scale isn't moving.

Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day wearing the same things? Weight can fluctuate a lot so I find it most accurate to weigh myself on the same scale, positioned on the floor the same, at the same time of day (immediately when I wake up so it's not affected by what I eat that day), with nothing on (I don't care what my clothes weigh, I care what I weigh). If I weigh myself at home and then on the scale at the gym there is often an 8 pound difference. So it all matters.

Congrats on your clothes fitting better and feeling better too!

Thanks. I did weigh at the same time. I meet with my NUT the beginning of September. I'm terrified my clothes will be loser but my weight will remain the same. My insurance doesn't care if my clothes are loser, they just care about the number. Maybe I need to drink more Water? Not sure what is going on

How much Water are you drinking in a day? If you don't get in enough your body will hold on to it and the weight will be nearly impossible to lose. The equation I've been advised to use if to take your current weight and multiply by .5 and that will be the amount of ounces you need in a day.

For example:

300 pounds (I have no idea how much you weight)

300 x .5 = 150 ounces

Be careful of hidden carbs too. Certain cheese can have more carbs than others, some veggies are higher carb too. And most yogurt is pretty high carb too. Carbs can sneak up on you and sabotage your efforts. Low carb works great for me but only if I keep my carbs really low. I have to stay under 30 net carbs a day (preferably under 20) or the weight doesn't budge for me.

It sounds like you are doing the right things and eating the right kinds of foods.

I agree that upping your Water will help. Have you cut out caffeine and carbonation? If not, just doing that may help.

Also, are you tracking your food? It is helpful to know what your macros are: Protein, carbs, fats, and calories.

Try walking every day twice a day. Also I bought a new digital scale (top of the line) and it still was off 10 lbs compared to the scale in my surgeon's office. Good luck :)

@@northstar9148 Definitely increase your Water intake (lemon Water will help with water retention). However - the scale barely moves for me - even when I'm eating "healthy". You may have to do a fast to kick off the weight loss then go back to eating healthy. The only time the scale really moved for me was during a stomach virus a few weeks ago - I drank Powerade zero and ate Tomato Soup or chicken Soup for about 7 days (so basically was on a liquid diet). It wasn't a pleasant way to lose weight - but it was the only time the scale moved for me. I lost only 3 lbs during my supervised weight loss.

Iam eating a good quality of cheese. My NUT told me I could have all I want, but Iam not eating all I want, just adding to things, like eggs. I havebern constipated for 3 days. Iam thinking it because of the cheese and not enough Water.

When i needed to make weight to get the approval from insurance i went on the full liquid diet and drank at least 100oz Water a day. I drank premier Protein shakes, Jello, cottage cheese and refried Beans. Lost the 5% plus a couple extra in about two weeks. I also tried walking about 2 miles a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
