Severe back pain after weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I have not asked about this with my surgeon, though i do plan to, but i would like to throw this out to you all

Has anybody experienced upper and lower back pain after losing the first 20-50 lbs?

Does anybody have an educated explanation for it, if it is something to do with weight loss?

Any info would be awesome

for the sake of the convo, i started at 330, and im now 250, but i noticed the pain after the first 20 or so lbs.

thanks

- Stephen

Between the surgery and then getting back to working out I use a heating pad a lot. I have some minor aches nothing sharp or major so not sure if comparable to what you are experiencing.

how had your exercise or weight training changed? I would be sure to share and if team has the expertise what exercises could help. My practice is big on yoga.

Changing your body shape changes your posture. The muscles and bones are being worked differently than what they were before.

I had some back pain after losing 30-40 lbs.

Body isn't used to holding up the different frame and the different weight on it.

I used icy-hot Patches, and slept on a heating pad. Helped a lot.

Before surgery I used aleve for pains like these, but no NSAIDS after surgery, so I used tylenol. Tylenol on its own didn't help me much, but alongside the patch and pad, it helped (I think).

I had some pretty bad back pain after I lost my first 30lbs .... I figured it was because of my breast .... My doctor gave pain meds and muscle relaxers and the muscle relaxers helped a lot ... I'm now 45 lbs down and almost 3 months out of surgery ... And I'm not having back pain as often anymore !!!! So maybe yours will go away as well !

Totally makes sense.

I'm also experiencing it after losing 90 pounds. My body shape has changed so much and I'm carrying weight very differently.

I had a tremendous reduction in back pain after the sleeve surgery. It's getting better over time. Back pain was one of the major reasons I opted for bariatric surgery.

I did have some very strange shooting nerve pains up and down my legs after two months......lasted a few weeks and then went away.

My pcp attributed it to things moving around and shifting positions with the weight loss and that everything would settle down soon.

He was right. It subsided shortly after that appointment.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
