Just under 3 weeks out and busy!

It has been a marathon of activity since surgery. The journey started 8/3/16. Home 8/4 - could've stayed another night but couldn't do it. The idea of laying around the hospital when that could be done at home sold me on leaving. Only had anti-inflammatories at home and was back to work on 8/8/16. They were half days and I had some support through Wednesday, 8/10. Since then it has gotten busier & busier. Switched to baby food/purées. Transitioning to fork smashed this week. Today was the first day of school. I still have not vomited but have experienced all steps leading up to dumping last night. Sleepiness. Dizziness. shakes. Chills. Slept 10+ hours and had a tough morning. Trying to get in 40-60 oz H20 and eating baby food since it is convenient and variety is easy to manage.

HW: 355

Lost about 30 since surgery (in just under 3 weeks)

CW: 301

It is time for advice. I have to go to the university tomorrow night and Thursday for the next 4 months. I leave for my day to start at 6:20 AM and will get home around 9:30 PM. Exhaustion has been setting in around 8:00 PM. I was thinking of packing variety for tomorrow's long day with supplies for shakes as needed... up to 4. I don't want to risk sleepiness driving home but want to continue progress so I'll pack Oikos as well as Water and Vitamin Water + all the pills and meds.

I need survival ideas. Progress has been good & I want it to continue.

Baby food may not be the best choice because it doesn't have a lot of Protein and can often have added sugars so just be careful there. It's important you get plenty of fluids - usually that's at least 64ozs. That is a very long day - be careful and take care of yourself.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

In general the requirement for liquid intake is 64-80 ounces per day. But many things count towards this total. It is Water and milk. It is the liquid in the Protein shakes. It is the Water you drink when you take the various Vitamins and meds throughout the day. It is the water content of Soups. It is tea, Decaf coffee, Crystal Light flavored drinks, etc. So it is generally not hard to reach this goal.

The Protein requirement is generally 75-90 grams of protein per day. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes. Later after a month or two you can add Protein Bars as an option in meeting your protein goals.

Baby food is not the best choices for food of any kind.

Can you make your own purees?

Or leverage Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans with cheese, ricotta cheese, unsweetened applesauce as long as you eat some Protein with it,

Cream Soups,

Of course I would also leverage my favorite Protein shakes which are ready made and easy to pack in your lunch. They are Premier Protein ready made shakes. They have 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories.

Once you can mash things with a fork, leverage fish......very high in protein, low in calories and absolutely works well following WLS.

The dilemmas here are I'm not ever home in a wakeful state & it is early in the food introduction phase. My NUT said the food is only to coat the inside of the stomach not feed/fill. It is about the process of training the stomach to take the food. I've packed supplies for 4 Protein shakes. 2 Vitamin waters. Taken all pills and packed what is needed through the rest of the day. It's time to pack the rest of what is needed. I'll post how it goes.

Yesterday went better than I'd expected. Well over my 64oz expected Fluid intake

Had yogurt for Breakfast and shake for lunch. I missed having a shake during busy Houston traffic around 3:00 but felt cared for enough to actively participate in class. Everyone in the class was tired by the end around 8:30. When I got home I had some purées Beans and sour cream with cheese. Tomorrow marks the day I leave purées and officially start fork soft foods. Thank you for your support.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
