melliecat 55 Posted August 22, 2016 Hello All, I was banded in 2009, had it removed in 2014. Awful, daily vomiting, etc. Is the gastric bypass better? How do you have to eat your food? Do you get stuck, like with the band? I am terrified of putting myself in the same situation as with the band, but I cannot seem to find exactly how you have to eat/chew/swallow with the bypass. Any info, even what your meals look and feel like would be awesome...Thank you for your stories!
James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 22, 2016 I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. I do not daily vomit nor get food stuck. Sometimes I may overeat and this can lead to vomiting but that is rare and generally I have pre-triggers that warn me when I am close. Like sneezing, or hiccups, or the taste of food changes in an instant, or I begin to feel excess mucous. So I stop eating and all is well in the world. This is my experience with gastric bypass. katiechap 3 Posted August 27, 2016 My surgeon won't even do lap bands anymore due to high failure rates. I am almost two weeks out and have followed my NUT instructions to a T. I have only had minimal early dumping twice, both times when I ate my yogurt too fast. Good luck Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
terrydumont46 1,954 Posted August 27, 2016 The difference is night and day. No more fills. No more vomiting. No more reflux. Your pouch actually gives you good warning that you are going overboard. Now for some cons. For me. A lot of gas. A lot more stools. And they are smelly. Hmmmmm trying to think of more but have none. I love having the band removed and having the bypass done. Daenerys Targaryen 109 Posted August 27, 2016 Had my band to bypass five weeks ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made! It is like going from a Hyundai to a Mercedes-Benz. With my lap-band things would get stuck, I would throw up, sometimes things would catch, there would be that painful catch in my chest, I was so tight in the mornings that I struggled to get down meds, and so loose at night that I could eat a buffet with no problem. With the bypass, I have no more pain, no catches, no throwing up so far, my stomach is the same all day long and I can take my pills in the morning or drink/eat with no pain or issues. I just feel naturally full, the way life was before the band, but no choked-off tight in my chest feeling. This is a natural feeling.

I have diligently documented my preop insurance stage in hopes of making something similar down the road.
