Feeling like I should see my doctor.

Recommended Posts

TMI disclaimer:

I can't stop the diarrhea and cramping. It occurs every time I drink or eat something. Is this normal? I'm scared of becoming dehydrated. I don't have a doctor in the states as I had my surgery in Mexico. Is anyone else experiencing/ experienced this problem?

When was your surgery?

I did have diarrhea the first week after surgery (surgery on the states), but it wasn't as bad as what you are describing. Was your surgery recent? It sounds like you might have a case of Montezuma's Revenge (aka traveler's diarrhea). If you are getting dehydrated, go to the ER for fluids and antibiotics.

One year after surgery I got sick like that for 10 hours on some terrible medicines for gout. I went to the ER and was admitted overnight. I was so sick I could not hold my head up. DEhydration. When in doubt get to the ER.

I had surgery on 8/8 and haven't had anything like you are describing at any point. It doesn't sound normal to me. How long has it been going on?

Started around the 12th. I took a stool softener because I hadn't gone in over a week. well, the stool softener did its job but I haven't been the same since. I've been taking Imodium which did help. Im thinking about switching to a pea Protein instead of whey. I'm thinking MN maybe it's dairy. I don't know.

Diarrhea for over a week is a little concerning. One stool softener shouldn't do that. I would go to the ER if it doesn't stop by Wednesday.

C Diff can be serious. It is a bacterial infection. I would seek a medical opinion.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
