Can you eat any food after a year?

Recommended Posts

I still can't do steak unless it's filet and choice at that. Even chicken sometimes gives me trouble and I wouldn't dare eat a sandwich, it would get stuck for sure. I don't eat at any fast foods because I can't do the sandwiches. I'm 13 months out. Hope this helps.

I have always been able to pretty much eat anything, just smaller amounts. There has been times I couldn't eat something one day and be able to eat it then next. You just never know until you try.

As with all things with the band, there is a lot of variety in different people's experiences. If you hold back on the fills and don't have restriction you can "eat anything" all the time, no need to wait a year. But that is not really ideal for weight loss, of course.

If you have good restriction so the band is working for you, you will probably find that certain foods are not good choices because they get stuck. (Although some people find they can eat anything even with good restriction, just smaller portions, so you never know). And, as Harley Girl said, the whole thing can change from day to day (or even different times of the day).

But it is important to remember that these limitations do not necessarily result in feelings of great deprivation. If, for example, one of your favorite foods right now is pizza, you may find that after a while it is not your favorite any more. Most people find that tastes do change once you have the band. Hard to explain why, but they do. So even if you can't eat everything that you love today, you'll probably find that this is not something that causes great feelings of deprivation later.

I too can eat pretty much anything. There are some days the band seems to reject something for some unknown reason, but the next time it is fine. I had a problem with bread for a short time following my 2nd fill, since then, I have not had a consistent problem with any foods. All things in moderation---and eaten with bandster rules in mind, it all does pretty good.

I can eat anything...after 6 months...but some foods take sooo much chewing that they just aren't worth the effort. I also find that as food loses it's grip on me in general, I don't much care what I "can't" eat....

I could eat anything after 2 months.. except hamburger patties. And I probably could if I really worked at it, but nah thanks.

QUESTION FROM A NEW BANDSTER!!

So, if you 'can't' eat a food. How do you know....?

OK, I'm assuming you throw up.

So, isn't throwing up really bad with the band? I hear it can cause slippage. Also, does it feel like a normal vomit session? Or does it hurt worse or what...

Signed,

Scared to death of the next month's transitions.

It's not that traumatic ;)

Any 'stuck' I've gotten, it's very uncomfortable, but you feel it coming on.. you suffer for a minute, then it's gone. That's how it is for me anyway. When I am stuck I don't like to move or talk, and if someone asks me something I have to whisper back (dh has a tendency to do this--'You stuck?') Throwing up has only happened a couple of times to me, and each time, it's a very smooth throw up.. not like heaving when you're sick.. its more like.. spitting up.. and there goes food you just ate.

Don't be afraid of the good foods! If your band has an intolerance for a food, you'll likely know on the first bite, and it's not too terrible, it's just not fun.

Hey, Kat! Your weight loss is wonderful. Congratulations!

I was banded in July and initially lost 15 lbs. After my post-op appt and before my first fill, I gained 5 lbs. Since my first fill, I've gained another 5 lbs. I guess I'm still in bandster hell. I'm optimistic that my second fill on Monday will give me the restriction I need. I hope to lose 40 lbs by Christmas.

I love reading all the posts and watching everyone's progress!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
